Fairly new to owning Porsches but FWIW, had the PSS9's installed with H&R sways.

I had the H&R Coilover kit on mine, and it was much better than stock, but I can't recommend H&R due to their poor customer service.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Here's my quandary:
My car has about 70k miles. The suspension is o.k. but it's about time to replace / upgrade. I barely get into my driveway as it is with a slight nose rub if I back in. I am driving on the street, no track in my future but appreciate precise handling although road noise and eliminating jarring bumps are probably more important. Do I:
replace shocks with Bilstein HDs and stock height springs or,
replace shock with HDs or Sports with lowering springs and start chipping concrete or,
say wtf and upgrade with PSS9s?
Oh, and here's a pic. When ARE those skirts coming?
I had the H&R Coilover kit on mine, and it was much better than stock, but I can't recommend H&R due to their poor customer service. I suggest searching online (and on this site) to see what others recommend. Darren at West End Alignment in Gardena might offer some suggestions too.
+1 on the RoW M030 based upon your driveway issues.
X74 would be next on the list but the car will be more lower.
The PSS9 is a great system and you can adjust it accordingly, but most adjust it low so again you will have clearance issues.
I second the RoW M030 suggestion...I haven't driven a car with the PSS9, but for less than half the price the M030 is a full OEM suspension that definately transforms the feel of the car while lowering it slightly....the ride is not more "harsh" than stock by my judgement as the system seems damped very well, it gives a nice ride quality....highly recommended!
Here's a good link comparing RoW with USA M030:
http://www.pca.org/panorama/sample_article_3.html
The way I am reading this, there is a bit of a lowering with improved handling with the RoW springs (also might scrape off some more right front bumper pulling to the driveway) But that the Bilstein HDs seem to be a pretty good alternative and either US or HDs outperform the RoW fronts.
Chris,
I installed the US M030 since I had driveway issues as well. The ride height is exactly the same as before the switch. As a compromise, I think the US spec M030 is an excellent replacement if you are not going to track the car. The kit also comes with front and rear sways.
First let me offer a potential solution since I have a similar situation with a steep driveway.
I notice you said you 'backed in' and the front scrapes...I don't know if you MUST back in but if you approach the driveway at an angle (at least 30-45 degrees to the direction) to get past the steep part before straightening up it will be better than approaching directly.
The reason I'm telling you this is because even if you don't drive on the track you REALLY should get the car lowered.
Mine's a 99 with about 70k miles and a few months ago finally had the car lowered with the Techart 20mm springs and the GT3 sway bars installed. Honest to God it completely transforms the ride and handling from fairly sloppy with understeering and roll into a tight little slot-car. Some people are worried about the 'roughness' of the ride but I didn't notice any difference at all in.
No kidding, I didn't believe it could make that much difference but it is both amazing and immediately noticeable.
If you're having the suspension done anyway you'd be crazy not to do it.
Just my 2 cents.
I have another option, I can park in our carport and let my wife pull into the driveway. Only issue is I wash the car in the driveway so I still need to pull in at times.
So, I am considering lowering...
Whichever option you choose, I'm sure you'll be pleased after the old stock suspension. I had the RoW M030 installed at 75k miles, and it made a huge difference partly because the front shocks were getting pretty floaty.
People speak very highly of PSS9 and H&Rs, but the rare experience of saving money by buying Porsche parts swayed me
Fairly new to owning Porsches but FWIW, had the PSS9's installed with H&R sways. Decided after reading some posts here and talking to the good folks at my local indy here in Vancouver.
Could not be happier, transformed the ride all around. Soaks up expansion joints on bridges were it was much more harsh and floaty feeling before.
Ride hight was set at the stock sport suspension and I think that would be the same as the X74 stuff from Porsche.
Had not tracked or autoXed before the switch so do not have an impression for that.
A buddy has driven mine and his imperssion was "that thing is on rails" his ride is on '02 C2.
Good luck with whatever you decide and let us know what you did.
Geoff
Rough estimates and you can find this stuff from the sponsors too:
RoW M030 = just over $1,000
PSS9 = just over $2,000
Keep in mind that the RoW M030 will come with everything you need (i.e. sway bars), where as the PSS9's do not. Do research on this forum about these suspension systems as this has been covered many times.
Now you could go with an x74 which I did:
