Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Needless to say, my car is not my DD driver...it is my "let's go for a spin" kind of car and it gets the "fun run" a few times a year.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After reading the post by a fellow member hitting 100k, I am curious to find out the amount of miles average per year here on the board.
I bought my 99C4 with 36,000 miles on the clock. Two days ago, I hit 42,000 miles and I will have my car for 2 years exactly in 2 months.
Needless to say, my car is not my DD driver...it is my "let's go for a spin" kind of car and it gets the "fun run" a few times a year.
I personally average about 3,500 miles per year on mine.
My car has really been "issue" free. The only things I have had to do were personal cosmetic preferences and general mantainence
- 4 oil changes ($ 100 x 4)
- 1 brake job ($ 600)
- 2 rear tires ($ 500)
- 1 parking light ($ 27 for a bulb!!!)
The previous owner took extremely good care of it and Imagine Auto in town also took tremendous care of the vehicle performance wise and care wise.
Even after adding the K&N intake over the EVO box, I have been very pleased with the car. Techart wheels/suspension/shifter and a bunch of other add ons have made this car a true joy to own. I put it for sale about a year ago, but I priced it really high and failed to return calls...so I think part of me did not want to sell the car...
OK, too much info...if you made it this far, please share how long have you had your 996 for and how many miles do you put per year...
Thanks!!
Well, I haven't had mine a whole year, but based on what I've done so far, I'm on track to put about 3500-4000 miles on mine in a year.
And it IS my daily driver. I just don't drive daily
- Nick
P.S. Don't know how true this is, but when were hitting the dealers shopping a dealer told me the average annual mileage for 911's is around 5k.. a lot of people buy them as 3rd cars, I guess.
12,000 last year....as a weekend car.
This year I'll be lucky to get 3,000. I haven't driven it for a month.....New town, longer commute, new job.
I think it's going to turned into a strictly DE, AX car.
I also bought mine with about 35000 miles on it. Now it has almost 70000. I put about 12,000 miles per year on it and it is my daily driver.....unless I just washed it and it's raining!
But now I can see who's responsible for our dependency on foreign oil!
Wow! At that rate you should just do premix and treat it like a 2-stroke!
Got my 99C2 2 years ago with 18,000 on it and now have 31,000.
No significant issues in 2 years.
A/C condensation drain plugged up.
Replaced spark plug tube o-rings (did the plugs while in there)
Replaced rear tires.
Great car!
A man after my own heart!! Come on, even I do better than that - bought mine in Feb '06 w/ 1100 miles, now have 2450. That comes to 810 miles annually. Tim and Wayne have no comment!!
I firmly believe this. There was a discussion relating to mileage in the last Excellence, and the tech q&a guy repeated his long-held position that a Porsche needs 7,000 to 9,000 miles a year.
I have had my C2 since August 31 2007 (bought with 18002 miles) and today 7 weeks later I have 20105 miles...2K+ miles in 5 weeks since I was overseas for 2 of the 7...to say I love it, is an understatement...
I heard somewhere that 7,000 was the average on a 996.
I had a boxster that I put 7,000 on (1000 miles per month during nice weather) and stored it 5 months of the year during the winter.
My 2000 C4 I've had for 14 months and is a daily driver, purchased with 29,000 miles and now have 41,000 on the clock - 1000 miles a month.
I guess it is ALL over the place...
I bought my M3 4 months ago and have put about 3,000 miles on it...so that will be the 12,000/year car. My Z06 I bought a little over a year ago and she saw 3,000/year...so I guess I am driving about 18,000/year...
I purchased my 2003 996 Cab with 11,670 KM at the beginning of August. It now has 17,874 KM so that's 6,200 KM in two months. Works out to approx. 3850 miles in 2.5 months.
Jon - did you mean 6 miles or 6k miles? I don't want Phil to erroneously adopt a new "low miles driven cult hero" if the miles were actually 6k. Phil need no additional encouragement to NOT drive his car.
I bought my car at 17k miles. Had it for 6 months, and put 2k miles on it. So it looks like I'm headed for about 4k miles a year (previous owner did 2,500 per year).
I know, my engine is going to explode.
bought my 03 C2 16 months ago with 13k miles. now at 23k+ so looking at about 7k per year. I havent been able to determine previous owners so dont know much about its history. But so far so good on maintenance, issues - just yearly maintenance and oil change.
Bought my '03 C2 Febuary 8 2007 with 28,000 kms. Lost the engine at 36,000 kms that was a three week ordeal. Now at 45,000km thats about 18,000 kms or 11,185 miles. Nothing else mechanical ( touching wood ).
One autoX and one track day so far, more to come.
Love the car and even more so with the PSS9's and the H&R sways.
Enjoy and dont sweat the small stuff.
Geoff
I could do more miles than that just backing in and out of my drive way every day
What's the point of even owning it? Have you ever done the ugly calculation of cost per mile?
Holy Moly.....major error on my part fellas. Yes....I meant 6K. Haha. So funny.....Phil....sorry for the false alarm. Go back to looking at your car.
J
I bought mine 15 months ago with 49,500 miles. It now it has 55,500, so 6k miles in 15 months.
It's a weekend car for me. I really should drive it more, but I care where I park it, etc.
You had me worried for a minute. I could already hear the cogs turning in Phil's head as to how he was going to use that against me and Tim.
I did 4500 miles last year. I'll probably be around the same this year.
Purchased in May 07 with 35,000 km. Now I have 45,600 km. So to extrapolate, that gets me to 24,000 km per year. But, I drove it from Chicago to Vancouver in the first 3 days of ownership. So let's say about 18 - 20,000 km. per year
Bought my 03 C4 Cab in December 04 with 9300 miles, it now has 15,300, I guess I don't drive it enough!! Getting ready to trade it for an 08 Turbo Cab, not sure why, just feels like the right thing to do.
i have a daily beater that i drive when i need more space or if i'm headed for some nightlife downtown etc etc.
i drive my c4s probably about 12k a year, but then i've only owned it for 8 or so months now. if it were my only car, closer to 20K miles.
i don't like to keep my toy cars sitting around much. i think they last longer and run more reliably with consistent use (v. parking the car for winter season).
Bought mine in Aug 03 with 3800 miles on it. It now has 9000. So that is a whopping 5200 miles in 4 years. Maybe this is why I had a coolant leak a few months ago???
Obviously not my daily driver. But even my DD doesn't get that many miles since I take public transportation to work.
It probably made no financial sense for me to buy the P car since I don't drive that much. But is such a sweet car that I couldn't resist!
About 1500/yr, one weekend cruise a month to Miami from Palm Beach, FL. Service once a year, no issues since new in 1999.
Wish I had more time to use it but the 951 track car is my main focus.
