Looking at a used hardtop for my 2001 996 C4 Cabrio. Does anyone know if all cars have the attachment points and hardware to install one or are there some parts I may need to buy?

IIRC, cabs before 2003 have the attachment points installed. After that they only installed the attachment points if the hardtop was ordered with the car.

Check the hardware on the top, ~2005 it changed from twist lock to threaded. If you have to change it I would do the update to your car. The threaded ones tend to lock down better with fewer rattles.

Late cars were able to be ordered with a "hardtop delete" option. This was a $1400 US savings. The mounting point hardware can still be ordered from Porsche directly. Cost me about $400 U.S. and took 10 days from Deutschland. Install was dead simple, 20 minutes. Be sure to look if your new to you top has bayonet style or 997 style screw in type attachments.
