I have replaced the belt before and I remember being able to take enough tension off that you could easily slide the belt off of a pulley...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So i have had a crazy squeeking sound the past couple days once I am warm and from idle to about 2500rpm... I just had the car detailed so I was thinking the belt got contaminated when the detailer did the engine. I just went to replace the belt and the tensioner moved but hardly. I would of had to force the belt off and I couldnt have gotten the new one on most likely. Im assuming the tensioner is toast. Is this the case do you think? Or is it something else? The tensioner 24mm bolt will keep spinning after the tensioner "opened" as much as it could. thanks, Keith

POST 2Original post

Does it still feel springy? The spinning is just the bolt and sleeve turning inside the arm, maybe you could tighten the bolt and sleeve more. Mine will turn a little when using a 24mm or 15/16" wrench on it, normal.

I have replaced the belt before and I remember being able to take enough tension off that you could easily slide the belt off of a pulley... It springs back taught but im unable to release the tensioner enough to get the belt off without having to pry it off. The tensioner released a given amout and then the bolt slips... I guess I should try and tighten the bolt behind the roller and see what happens... I have a horrendous screetching and squelling....What could it be if its not the tensioner. I have a brand new waterpump, voltage is fine, and same with AC ona nd off...

I have to pry mine off somewhat too, it just doesnt fall off. When I had squeaking, it was obvious what was causing it. I spun the pulleys by hand and you could hear the roughness in the bearings. Had to replace one tensioner pulley and one idler pulley.
