My dealer cleaned the contacts on the oil pressure sending unit, I don't believe they actually replaced the part.

Driving my '02 Targa - I heard a beep - a message came up said System Failure - and shows the oil can symbol. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero - it dropped quickly like the gauge had quit working. I clicked on the "OK" option on the message, then the gauge went back to normal - and the car seemed to run fine all the way home - probably around 10 miles. The car does have a RMS leak - I've just been putting it off until the clutch has more wear on it. The car is CPO. Anybody seen this before? Thanks for your help.

Simplysql did you ever get any responses to your question? I am a relatively new owner with a 2003 C2 with 20k miles and have been experiencing the same thing 4x now. My wrench feels its gauge and or sensor related but he seems reluctant to investigate. Baby needed an oil change anyway so he wants to see if that changes things although i am quite careful with the oil level.

My suspicion is that the oil pressure sender (sits on top of the right hand head) is on the blink. I don't know if anyone can confirm this, but that would be where my suspicion would be directed. If so you can pick up a new sender for about $50.

I had a similar thing sporadically. Usually would bounce back on its own after a few seconds. My dealer cleaned the contacts on the oil pressure sending unit, I don't believe they actually replaced the part. Anyway, the problem has not come back.
