Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Strange problem I have 2000 996 and got some used seat belts (front) But they will not extend. They seemed to be locked and both are the same way. There are no electrical connections to them. I was just trying them without mounting them first and also looked for some kind of way to unlock including giving them a quick pull and release ,but no joy. What's up anyone?

POST 2Original post

i just reinstalled my rear seatbelts and seats and had the same problem. the innertia reels for the belts are setup like a pendulum as is my understanding. if the reel isn't in the proper angle (i.e. the angle it is supposed to be installed at), it won't move because it thinks that you're in a crash (which would make enuff decelerative force to lock the mechanism). just install the belts and it should come loose. if these are the front belts, they sit almost perfectly vertical. like i said, try installing them and then give the belt a smooth pull. good luck

POST 3Original post

I would bet that would be covered by Porsche under warranty. Seatbelts are a safety item that are always warranteed. I think.

I'll give that a try. Thanks

POST 6Original post

the only thing that that front clip should do is trigger the warning light that reminds people to put em on.

I realize that, but the tensioner does not work unless it is installed.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Follow Up: The seat belts (2000 model mechanical type) need to be installed before they will extend. All is well.
