Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I drove 800 mi this past weekend from Maine to Pa. and back, and didn't have any problems with my 99 C2. I also managed to turn 40k miles on the odometer. My wife however did notice my speed on occasion(mid 90's) and I told her that the indicated speed was off by quite a bit, but she didn't buy it. Just wanted to express my total enjoyment of my 8 year old 996 and tell other owners to go out and enjoy the Porsche experience. Steve.
Whenever my wife glances over at the speedo and notices a 9X she says calmly, "do you want me to drive for a while".
My response, "no, I'm fine" as I ease back on the accelarator.
Did you upgrade your engine to the 3.6? I hear the 3.4s will either catch on fire or explode when driven (1) more then 20 miles consecutively or (2) over 72 MPH.
Seriously, congrats on living the dream! Now all you need is to get to the track to have a whole new experience!

I'm trying to dispell that myth with the 3.4. I have not 'yet' tracked my 911 but did track my last car(Audi TT225 Quattro) and had one of the best driving experiences ever. We spent an entire day at the Louden track in NH.and came away with a whole new outlook concerning car control and handling.
I drove almost 400 miles yesterday on a trip to boston with my boss in my '99 C4. What a delight! The only thing that would have made it better would have been a glass sunroof (see other thread...)
I even got 27 miles per gallon!
Yeah, I'm up in Amherst, MA right now and I REALLY wished that I could have brought the P-car up here instead of the rental car.... sadly, this campus is packed with cars at this time of year and I'd just be having a fit over leaving it in one of the campus parking lots.
.... instead I'll have to dream about the 600 mile round trip between here and PA and figure out a way to do it on a future trip.
Think about it Phil... can you dream of putting 600 miles on your car?!?!
...sorry, not that might induce cold sweats and nightmares.
Wayne - you just added another few months to his psychotherapist schedule.

Bought mine on Saturday, then drove it 210 miles home. No fires, no smoke, no surprises. Oh yeah, there was one surprise............My speedo is fast by 5 miles per hour. Thank god!
The posts are always about the wives complaining we're driving too fast, which is my personal experience as well. I'm waiting for the one that says the wife thinks he's driving too slow. I suppose that would be from Danica Patrick's husband or the like.
Muahahaha! I got inside your head, even if I couldn't get you into your car.
Hey, driving around a college town this weel has made me want to have my p-car her so that I can be 21 again and cruise the block.... or at least cruise a 21 year old again.
Oh, stop it! JUST STOP IT!!!!!
"
Maybe
I'll drive more..." ????? You probably WILL drive more, because we all know it would be almost impossible for you to drive less! If you keep this up,
I
may end up in therapy!
Good morning, Phil!
Just turned 90,000 miles. Have been waiting for the engine to explode for the last 50,000 miles. Instead it seems to be getting stronger. Only another 10,000 miles and 3 months though and I am out of warranty. Maybe it will explode then.
3,500 miles since 8/20. I took my fisrt drive into Manhattan on Thursday and had to do it solo. When my wife got home and saw the 996 gone she called and asked me if I was stupid or just crazy to drive the Porsche. She had these visions of it being stolen or sitting on the brake rotors. It turned out to be a fantastic drive in, back not so good as it rained so hard I actually got off the highway to wait it out. The 04 996 continues to impress me for it's versatility as a driver. I can comfortably cruise and thoroughly enjoy the ride or when the spirit moves me I can romp it and hang on for the adrelin rush. I once had a 1968 911 and made multiple non-stop runs from Tampa to Pa., (yes, I was much younger then). I always planned on stopping over night in North Carolina, but never wanted to not be driving the 911. And today it is much the same. Luckily, I bought it to drive it so all is well.
Bad news is that I must go to India for two weeks and I know I will be desperately missing the 996.
