Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was thinking about installing this myself but couldn't find the time so I had it installed today. I watched the install and am glad I didn't try. The whole interior was removed less the top half of the dash and the headliner. The throttle body had to be removed as was the rear bumper. All back together and the sound is fantastic.

POST 2Original post

Wow, I never knew it was that involved, what do they do to the interior of the car for the exhaust?

Mike - congrats! I'll bet it sounds GREAT! BTW, "... couldn't find the time... watched the install..." seems to be a contradiction there!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought of that when I wrote it. What I meant was...I was working remotely and having a look every hour or so. After seeing what had to be done it probably would have taken me three days, if I could have got a hold of the TSB. In fact I'm not sure I would have known how to take some of the stuff apart.

POST 6Original post

Mike - I just couldn't help but comment on the "apparent" contradiction, but mostly, I was just giving you some scheet! BTW - speaking of MODS, step into my office, I think we can come up with a few more......

POST 7Original post

Mike, you have to let me know what you think of it. I'm seriously considering the PSE. I made the mistake of parking next to Andy (U_crazy_kid) at one of our Santana Row meetings here in California. I have the MKii modded mufflers and Andy had the PSE. I hate to admit it but hearing the PSE right next to the MKii mod made me realize that MKII is no where close to the PSE. The PSE is much deeper and louder. The PSE seems to hold the great sound from idle all the way through the RPM band (if you don't install the 35mph cut-off) where as the MKII mod doesn't really come alive until further up the RPM band. It's better than stock but no PSE for sure. How much did you pay for material and installation? I'm curious to get some price comparison since the quotes I've gotten fluctuates wildly. Enjoy your PSE

hehehe, no worries. I loved the sound of your car and I'm happy I heard the difference a PSE makes. But yes...you are to blame for this one....can't blame Tim for it unfortunately

POST 10Original post

With 16K miles my left can had a nasty vibration=sounded like $#!*. It was under warranty so I had it replaced on Tuesday. The price of the muffler was $1,100. It sounds terrific now! gr8330 went all out on that install! As I rarely use the quiet mode I might not have done the switching into the interior but then why not install mufflers that have fewer moving parts? I am sure some outfit has figured out a blue tooth method of activation?

POST 11Original post

Finally, something for which I don't get blamed!!!! This must be my lucky day! I'm going to buy a lottery ticket!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Matt the parts from Sunset were $1899.82 which included $43 for shipping. The install, including the V-1 install took 8.5 hrs. I must be a nice guy because he charged me for 7hrs. The sound is really nice, did I say great,

POST 13Original post

How come such a big difference in price? Livefreeandrive: $1100 and Mike $1899 Is the difference that you didn't have the shut off switch Livefreeandrive? Thanks for the info guys

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The switch is around $37.00. $1100 is a killer deal if it happened from a dealer

POST 15Original post

If the removed most of the interior and the throttle body they were just racking up the time. I installed the PSE on my Cab myself. You do have to remove the rear bumper (about 20 mins.) and reintall it, but on the interior I just removed the driver seat and sill cover, and the cover under the top compartment, 1 rear speaker and a couple of dash pieces. took me 4-5 hours including the old bolts on the exhaust.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

He ran wire up the middle under the console and the left side also. The throttle body was removed to add the rubber boot that has a vacuum connection that feeds the storage tank

POST 17Original post

Just about to leave the office and I can't wait to hear that growl....... My PSE; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85143TXV0Ug

POST 18Original post

nice video and sound spiderv6. That's it....I'm going to the stealership to get a quote for a PSE. I can't take it anymore. I WANT that sound.

POST 19Original post

I installed the PSE (had it installed)...sans switch. A VERY marked difference from regular cans. I have heard some folks say that it now sounds more like a 993. Not true at all. It sounds like a bypassed 996. Loud, throaty...what you would hope for, I think. Without the switch he charged me for 2 hours of tech time.

POST 24Original post

Congratulations on your PSE, I'm sure you will agree that it is money well spent. I did want to comment on your installers experience. Having done several of these myself, I can say that the installer certainly went by the TSB, but in the process made it much harder than it needed to be. Taking the dash or interior apart, as well as removing the throttle body is totally unnecessary. In the interior all that is necessary to install the electrics is drop the relay bracket to install the relay and wiring, and pop off the upper console bezel to install the switch. The wire to the back gets run along and under the door scuff plate. I took my seat out when I did my first one, but on others I left everything in. In the back, you need to pull up the back shelf cover on the car to drop the vacuum switch wiring into the engine compartment. In the engine compartment, everything that needs to be done can be installed without removing anything. The vacuum supply comes from an existing port next to the throttle body. The mufflers can be installed without removing the bumper cover, but it so much easier if you remove both the bumper cover and the muffler heat shields. If you are interested here is a DIY from my first install. Click Here. In my opinion having the ability to make the mufflers quiet is a real bonus. I leave it in loud mode 85% of the time, but there are times when silence is golden!

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

He did say it had been a few years since he had installed PSE. The kit came with the rubber sleeve to connect the vacuum line into and it goes on the back of the throttle body. Im not defending him just passing on what I did see. The Tech was very meticulous and soldered all the connections along with using heat shrink tubing where necessary. That is the type of work I look for when I have someone else do work for me. If you all knew a little about my background I sure you all would be on my a$$ even more. I really love the sound and at this point I couldnt give a sh$# what I paid, its done.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Orient I'm sending you a PM about your bra. I'll try not to get to personal

POST 27Original post

I agree with Orient Express, word for word. I used his DIY, and other tips found on RennTech, and did the install myself. Ran the wire through an existing firewall opening, and along the door sill area on the driver's side .... right up to the relay bracket. I did loosen the driver's seat so I could tilt it back out of the way to squeeze my way to the bracket. Per the DIY, I passed on pulling the throttle body, and used an existing vacuum port with a Y adaptor. My bumper was already off for repainting, but its a very easy job to pull it. Although not required, removing the bumper gives unbelievably easy access for swapping the cans. I also agree on how great it is to have the abiity to switch to Quiet on some occasions. My total work time, and a shade tree mechanic was a good deal less than your pro's.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 4670363

Mike - it's OK to ask a guy about his bra, but if you ask him about his panties, THEN we get a little worried!

POST 29Original post

Yes, all of the kits come with an extra intake manifold sleeve for cars that might not have an accessible vacuum port, but if there is already one on your car, no need to install a second one, vacuum is vacuum, and it is perfectly acceptable to just tap into the existing one.
