Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Can you or anyone recommend an engine diagram for me to locate various parts?

So--the one repair I have had done is replacement of the MAF a couple weeks ago; it was setting off the CEL about once a week (1123/1125 codes).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys, I'm a newish 996 owner that has learned a great deal from this site. My car is a 1999 C2, bought it with just under 30K miles and I now have about 5K on it myself. It's a champ. . . still need to get pics up of course. Silver body, black leather, all sport options, I put in a custom stereo from Rod out west, etc. Sweet.
So--the one repair I have had done is replacement of the MAF a couple weeks ago; it was setting off the CEL about once a week (1123/1125 codes).
Now, with the turn of cold weather and if the car has been sitting overnight or longer, it idles at maybe 1600-1800 instead of the normal 800-900rpm, until the car starts to move. Then, all is normal again, including normal idles. Is this a cold idle setting of some sort, or should I remedy this, and if so, how?
thanks for the help on a rookie question--Justin
Justin - Welcome to Rennlist. Your car "sounds" nice, but we can't tell for certain without pics.
Pics?? Did someone say PICS????? Come on "newbie, post the !@#$%^&* pics!
OK, I got that out of the way (the other guys MAKE me do that, you know!). Yes, 1,600-1,800 seems high. Your engins shosuld idle at about 1,100 RPM when first started, and then should settle to 800 RPM after a minute or so. Not sure what the fix is. Maybe someone else will comment here.
Again, Welcome!
Remove and clean the idle control valve (ICV). It is located on the left side of the throttlebody and can be cleaned using carb cleaner. Remove 2 screws, saving gasket, clean and reinstall.
gota911: ok I'm on it. I'm actually right down the road in Charlotte. . .
1999: Thanks for the ICV advice. Can you or anyone recommend an engine diagram for me to locate various parts? Like I said, rookie. . .
thanks, j
