I use Carbotech pads ( xp10's) on my other car for track days.

Use slotted rotors instead of the worn out crossdrilled rotors

I also plan on using slotted rotors instead of the worn out crossdrilled rotors on the car now.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
I recently picked up a 99 996 C4. It's completely stock. It will be used on the track. I'd like to get a little more HP. What exhaust mod would be good that's not too loud and doesn't cost a fortune. I plan on installing the K&N airfilter kit.
Pardon my ignorance. Are the calipers on a 99 Brembo? Mine are silver. I use Carbotech pads ( xp10's) on my other car for track days. What would be recommended for the 996. I also plan on using slotted rotors instead of the worn out crossdrilled rotors on the car now. Any suggestions?
Last but not least. Is there a maintenance manual on c/d for this car?
Thanks
Eric
Hi Eric...welcome aboard! many will chime in here, as you have joined the best 996 forum IN THE UNIVERSE. Many will politely ask you to post soime pix of ur car as well as list the options and price if you feel comfortable disclosing the same....but....most importantly....pictures...ASAP.
Best and good luck on the track,
J
Welcome! I am new to 996's as well and this is a great site.
I think a search here will reveal that while opinions seem to vary the only way to really see any appreciable gain in HP is to supercharge (and I am not advocating that simply noting what appears to be the predominant opinion). From what I have read here you may be able to gan anywhere from 0-10 hp with an exhaust change. Bang for the buck is minimal. It will sound better though if that matters any.
Your K&N option is also cause for controversy as well and I bet someone else will chime in with that comment too! Overoiling can screw up your MAF and some claim that it is harmful to the engine.
Have not tracked this car but agree whole heartedly with your choice of slotted over drilled. As a tech inspector we fail cars almost every event for cracked rotors. Not sure about those pads. Performance Friction and Pagid are often used.
When I decide to take this car out to the track, it will install the X51 Baffled Oil Pan to ensure that oil starvation under prolonged cornering does not occur. The factory has an updated pan that keeps the oil at the pickup for the pump. Sounds like a good idea and a low cost ($250) insurance plan.

Most of all ENJOY the car!!!
yes c4 brakes are silver, c2 black, turbo/gt3 red. Pagid are a common track pad here, slotted rotors... even better.
K&N intAKE had a few maf failures, but maybe the new one are fine. I would keep the stock intake, they seem to be the best with BMC filters. If you want to go after market, get the evo brand.
Maintenance manual... yes from porsche for like $30k, I have not found a good maintenace manual. There are some CDs you can buy on ebay, search for porsche 996 manual.
You won't need a maintenance manual, as you have the 3.4 engine: it will blow up anyway.
Somebody will explain that to ya
Even stock, your car is plenty fast for the track. The most common advice for the track is: before you get more HP, get some seat time, then a little more seat time, and then just a bit more seat time. Then get a seat and roll cage, then some new tires and suspension, and then more HP. The more HP is optional.
Welcome and enjoy the best P-car forum you can find.
