The Porsche head mechanic asked me to take it easy for the first 400 miles, no going over 4000RPM (in case you forgot, I lost my engine and it had to be replaced.)

The bill was a bit under $12K and it seems that the delay was because the extended warranty company refused to replace the engine with a New remanufactured engine from Porsche.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Friends...I got a call from the dealer that my lady is ready. I could not wait. She is asleep in the garage. The Porsche head mechanic asked me to take it easy for the first 400 miles, no going over 4000RPM (in case you forgot, I lost my engine and it had to be replaced.) The bill was a bit under $12K and it seems that the delay was because the extended warranty company refused to replace the engine with a New remanufactured engine from Porsche. The policy stated that catastrophic engine failures are handled by replacement with an engine of equal milage. The mechanic insisted on a new engine and for that I am grateful. I wish it did not take that long...45 days with a call from me three times a week. I asked Porsche USA to intervene on my behalf and I was assigned an agent who did a fine job of communicating with the dealer. He informed me that Porsche rebuilds the engines in Germany and are very interested in acquiring bad engines to study the cause. It seems that the Intermed. Shaft Bolt in the early 996 engines was structurally weak and the design was improved to address the problem! Any thoughts about breaking in the new engine?

POST 2Original post

POST 7Original post

Porsche went to bat for you? That is hard to believe. They did everything they could to ignore me and delay me when my motor failed. Congrats.
