Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Generation: 20261026T052503Z · outcome-qualification-6. Deterministic extraction; no AI model inference. How we use sources

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at buying a 1999 911 Carrera 4S - But besides the badge on the back hatch I don't know if this is an "S" or not. Most sites say the S version did not come out until model year 2002. When I search for other used 99's I can find Carrera 4 but none with S badging. The CarFAX and Porsche North America just call it a Carrera 4. What is the S? Somebody who wanted to make thier car look like a newer model? Tim from Toronto

POST 2Original post

Sounds like some "badge engineering". The C4S was a 2002 and newer model.

POST 4Original post

Correct. 2002 or greater. Better make sure it is a "4" also, if you are looking for a C4 vs. C2. Rub it really good with a soft polishing cloth - may not be the correct color!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So you would say - creative badging? But 4S 's Were in exsistance prior to 1999 - Correct?

POST 6Original post

993 had a 4S for, I believe, 1997 and 1998. The 996 model 4S didn't start until 2002. There is a C4 (all wheel drive) and a C2 (rear wheel drive) for 1999

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...1&d=1192048885 Yep - link confirms it. You would be buying an authentic Porsche Carrera 4S - badge that is.
