I used a cheap battery drill to drill the hole for the sensors...no problem (and I'm no mechanic).
Leading evidence: 'Use cheap battery drill' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check outer lip' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I've got 70k miles and original rotors...and I use Hawk HPS pads!

I find that many dealers recommend changing rotors every time you change pads.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just had the dealer tell me I will be needing rear pads and rotors. I plan on doing it myself, I have done brakes on other cars so I'm not worried about doing it on this one.
Question: What parts do I need other than rotors and pads? Do in need a new brake pad sensor?
I will be using Porsche parts. Will they come with the backing plates that I need? Do I need anti-squeel, or anything else?
Who is going to have the best price on these parts? So far I found Suncoast to have the rotors for $205 and pads for $88.
Thanks!
Andy
Are you sure you need rotors? I find that many dealers recommend changing rotors every time you change pads. Rotors only need to be replaced if they're below min thickness, cracked or otherwsie damaged.
Sorry for not answering your question, but this is a bit of a hot button for me, just had to spout off.

. No affiliation, just a happy customer.
here is the DIY from renntech on rotor replacement-

. I agree with PJ to see if you really need to change the rotors. BTW, what's the mileage, usage, size of spider cracks, etc.

both are relatively basic jobs. take your time and you'll be fine.

I don't see any cracks. The car is an '02 with 36,000 miles. I haven't measure them myself yet just going on the dealers recommendation. The car is in now for RMS, Coolant Expansion tank replacement, blah, blah, blah, not to happy about it all. I so glad I bought that extended warranty now.

I agree with teh others, don't just take the word of the dealer. Check the outer lip on your rear rotors. If there is not much of a lip the rotors are probably OK. I don't know the new thickness or minimal thickness standards. Hoepfully, someone else will be able to chime in here with that info.
Run down to AutoZone, etc. and pipck up a micrometer and measure the rotor thickness then report back
As others have said, you probably don't need rotors. Pads are a super fast job. Personally I don't use the anti-squeal shims and rarely have any noise to speak of. More of a paint then anything.
I've done the front and will do the rear this w/e possibly. It looks like I'm getting 30% longer life out of the rear vs. the front (no DE's). Have your fronts been done? If not, I'm surprised the rears would wear b4 the fronts.
The job's easy! The DIY's easy to follow. I used a cheap battery drill to drill the hole for the sensors...no problem (and I'm no mechanic). Don't need new sensors unless they've gone off.
If you're concerned, follow LVDell's advice on micrometer. I've got 70k miles and original rotors...and I use Hawk HPS pads!
I find it hard to beleive that your back brake need even pads. Were you told this or have you verified? Your back brakes on a non tracked car should be good for a hell of alot longer than 36,000 miles. This is low mileage for even the front brakes on a street car.
Verify. DO NOT trust the dealer.
I still don't have the car back yet to measure myself. It needs RMS(3rd time), and Coolant bottle replacement. I thought the whole "You need rear brakes" was fishy. Every other car I have owned the rears out last the fronts at least 2 to 1 The front pads have been changed.
I'll report back when I get the car on Monday.
Sorry to hear that your car is back in for the RMS, the coolant bottle is standard. In regards to the brakes, I agree seems fishy just the rears, unless you are one of those stunt drivers we see in the movies where you drive backwards through the on-coming traffic
Disc brakes are very easy, Ive had to do drums on family members cars and those are just old technology! 3rd time for the RMS, My has lasted this long but suddenly see an oil leak after an oil change!!!
