You need the oil for proper filtration. Just do not use too much oil.

You can use the K&N regeneration kit. The trick is to line the inside of the filter with paper towels when reoiling it. Do not install the filter until the filter has a chance to soak in the oil completely overnight. Flip it upside down and down side up making sure oil is soaked up completely by the woven material at least once or twice if need be. People make the mistake over oiling it and fouling the MAF. You can always add more oil if needed but can never remove excess oil without recleaning it..
