I realise that you are using a GT3 bumper and I had a GT3 bumper which came with the car too but I have changed back to stock bumper.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I understand that for auto transmission Y2000 996 C4, there should be a transmission radiator in the middle part of the front and there is air duct directing cool air to such radiator.
I have got a manual transmission C4. According to the dealer there is no such radiator. The problem with it is the centre seems to be hollow without such radiator and I can see clearly the chassis (of course same as body color) which is very ugly looking thru the bumper . I am not sure whether I have missed out some of the parts. Can someone please post a good picture of the front (which can see the middle part clearly) of a manual 996. Thank you very much.
Well even though your first thread is not to introduce yourself it does have a couple of photos. So I will be nice enough to get you the quick answer as I have to leave the house.
For the manual transmission you do not need a 3rd radiator however there is a kit out there to add if you need it (i.e. you track the car where heat build-up is going to occur).
I have seen the center section of the front bumper with a cover on some cars.
I too have a manual and the center section is open and I do not have the 3rd radiator, but I plan too add it because I will be tracking the car. In the meantime I have just painted the back area of this section a semi-flat black with spray can so that it does not look that bad, plus my car is low to the ground that most people do not notice it.
So to answer one of your concers, you are not missing anything.
Now welcome to Rennlist and start a new thread introducing yourself please
Steven,
Thanks for the quick answer and sorry for not introducing myself in the first place. My name is John Lo and I live in Hong Kong. Although I am new to the 996 forum, I am not new to the rennilist since I had been to the 993 forum before as I had a 993 a couple of years ago but it is automatic and it gave me a strong excuse to sell my car (photos attached), although I like the look of 993 very much.
I realise that you are using a GT3 bumper and I had a GT3 bumper which came with the car too but I have changed back to stock bumper. My original GT3 bumper are meshed so that it does not look bad.
So you recon what I have posted is normal, ie without anything inside the middle of the front bumper? I plan to add the stock air duct for automatics so that it would look better.
Thanks
John
I have seen some of the center session has a cover. Is it stock? Could someone please help to identify the part number if it is stock. I really appreciate your help. Many Thanks.
John - I think you need part #3 in the diagram. There are 4 versions of it listed but you need one of the two that are outlined. Unfortunately, I am not sure which of those two you need. Your dealership parts department can probably clarify that for you.
EDIT:
In the
Model
column, M 480 is a 6-speed Manual transmission and M 249 is a Tiptronic transmission
.
Tim gave you the correct part number -- 996.505.553.04.01C
That part number is used on non-Tiptronic cars through MY01.
Here is what the part looks like.
Hi Loren,
I contacted the dealer today but it is hard to believe they are not sure whether this part no. is correct for manual. The dealer is terrible. Thanks very much but please confirm whether 996.505.553.04.01C is for manual and 996.505.553.04.01C is for tip since I have to order it but it is not possible to return.
John - First, you listed the same part number twice in your most recent post ^. For a car with a manual transmission you need part number 996.505.553.04.01C
In the
Model
column,
- M 480 is the option code for a 6-speed Manual transmission
- M 249 is the option code for a Tiptronic transmission.
