Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, With the Canadian dollar at par, I am now determined to pull the trigger on a used 996 targa in the US and bring it back to Toronto. There are a couple I am eyeing..would appreciate your thoughts on them and at what price I could negotiate for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-Po...em290164699901 and http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-...em320162402743 I prefer the seal gray one in terms of colour. Thanks Colin

POST 2Original post

Colin- I don't have great advice for you on prices as its been a while since I bought my targa I personlly prefer the seal grey one as well. It has really nice options and appears to be a nice car. I would certainly get a ppi, but I can tell you from experience the targa is a great car and you will love the glass roof. good luck!

They both look pretty decent, except I'm not sure about the wheels on the silver car. Are those OEM 17" rims or aftermarket/winter rims? The tires look like they have a taller-than-stock profile, but it may just be because I see so few 996s with the 17" base rims. Just something to check into possibly...

POST 4Original post

Buy the Seal Grey one and be done with it. That car is beautiful. I would by it myself it I hadn't just bought a coupe 9 months ago. It has sports seats, seat heaters, what's not to love. Get it!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for your input...I like the seal gray....I guess I am just not sure about what to offer and buying it sight unseen even with a PPI is a little unnerving, as well as it is a little far from Toronto...I would have to drive it back over 2 days...does the temporary licence allow me to traverse multiple states? Do you know of a someone reliable to do a PPI in Raleigh, NC? Thanks Colin

PM LVDell - he lives near Raleigh.

POST 7Original post

I have a 2002 posted in the Classifieds....42k. Ad# 6998

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK...I have 2 2002 targa seal greys...one would take me 14 hours to drive back (Raleigh) vs the other in Ohio (4 hours)....what do you guys think/ http://stoddard.autorevo.com/webtemp...spx?iid=180478 or http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-Po...em290164699901 Thanks Colin

POST 9Original post

Colin: I know they want to blow this car out. I have bought two cars from Chris and he has been a real stand up guy. Might be worth a phone call. Tell him Tim sent you http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...QQcmdZViewItem

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Tim, Thanks for your suggestion...I had looked at that car about 7 months ago...but I think would like a seal greay one, partly because I prefer the colour and also because black on black..I am thinking it would be really boiling in the summer heat....not discounting a black one...tough choices. What did you get from him? Colin

POST 11Original post

I bought a 996 C2 and a 2002 BMW M3 Top notch all the way

POST 12Original post

Without a doubt, get the one with the red seat belts = FTW! The belts are not only cool, but to me the show that the car was a special order car. That means the original owner specially picked out the car, waited for it to be built and loved it. I'm sure it has been well taken care of. I would not worry about buying a car from a distance if you have a good PPI and perhaps a rennlister check it out for you.

POST 13Original post

I like the Seal Grey one with red seat belts as well. Although I do think its about 5-6k overpriced. I think you should be in the low 40s on a car like that. Just my opinion.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It seems to be nicely-optioned and taken care of....he has dropped the price on ebay from 48k to 46k. I had offered 42K a few days back. What do you all think now? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=019 Colin

POST 15Original post

Personally I think it is worth $46K so I would just sack up and buy it before someone else takes it from under you. I paid $46K for my similarly optioned '02 with 26K miles 10months ago. Without: Targa, park assist, heated seats, red seat belts, leather airbag cover, painted center console, sport seats, rear wiper. Seriously that is a LOT of car for the money. If the PPI checks out, get it.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I would settle for 44K....but still am concerned about buying remotely. Do you think getting the PPI at the Porsche dealership where it was bought is a good idea, or should one go to an independent dealer? Anyone in Raleigh have suggestions or want to test drive it for me? Colin

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 4642936

Are you the one selling it? Scaring him into thinking somebody is going to buy it out from under him is insane. Obviously the car is nice (from pictures and description) but until it is seen in person and PPI'd there is no way to determine worth. Besides the OP offered 42 and is comfortable going to 44. Colin, sent you PM.

POST 18Original post

Dell, Nope, not selling this car. Just sharing my opinion on value and sharing my thoughts based on my own experience of having things sold out from under me because I was agonizing over a difference in 5% of cost. It was not a good feeling for me. It was not intended to be a scare tactic, simply pointing out a possible scenario. The car is for sale and advertised nationally. It is remotely possible that there is someone else considering the car. Colin, of course the decision is entirely up to you. Personally I would prefer a 3rd non-partial party PPI. If you can find another rennlister that you feel you know have a look at it too it would build my confidence.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Price is a difficult thing...there is the objective value of the car, then there is the emotional and other factors related to it.....it is being sold right now at 47K. We will see.... Thanks for all your feedback on this...
