Circumstances have changed rather dramatically in the past week, so I wanted to see what the dealer would give me "just in case" I needed to move it VERY quickly.

Tim, now that you're leaving Dell is going to have to run TRIPLE duty now:

I am mean...getting ride of the car is one thing but than going all the way down to a Honda (an old one!!) why not a nice used BMW 3 series??
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As the title states, I may be Porsche-less soon. Took the car down to the local dealer and asked them what they would give me for it. The price was not really what I wanted, but may be close enough to what I "need" for it to sell it to them and not have to fu#k around with trying to sell it on the open market.
I spoke with the Used Car Manager who buys all of the cars for them at auction and assesses all trade-ins. I had an interesting dialog with him:
Manager:
Well, I certainly don't have to ask if it has been kept in the garage. (Before he looked at the odometer) Is it a weekend car?
Me:
No, it's my daily driver.
Manager:
Really???
Me:
I told myself it I was going to get one, I was going to drive it!
Manager:
I envy and respect you for that! I have owned 4 Porsches and I could never get myself to drive them daily. I always kept them as a "treat" for myself on weekends. The car is in really good shape, especially for a daily driver. You have obviously taken good care of it.
They will probably CPO it and price it in the $50k to $52k range (my guess). I will make a decision on Friday or Saturday when the Used Car Manager returns from the Manheim auction.
I had really hoped I could keep it in the Rennlist Family, but I guess it was not destined to be.
Damn Tim....we are really gonna miss you....I hope you still lurk over here since you are the diagram king. I think the price you predicted is a tad low too, especially if they CPO it. Whatever route you choose, good luck with the sale. Frankly, I'm very surprised that you haven't sold it at the price you've got it at now.
Problem here is that most of us have cars already, and aren't buying one, unless we are upgrading. I would think that the 993 crowd would be your best chance here, but that hasn't seemed to transpire either.
Will you be out of the game for a long time?
J
I've had my eye on this one for a while. It already has the black hood. I hope it is still available!
Seriously, I don't know what I will get next. I have to (potentially) buy 2 cars within the next 2 weeks. Great planning on my part!
My wife's MB CLK lease ends on October 20th, so I definately need to replace that. I'll probably end up with some POS. If I can't drive a Porsche, I really don't care what I drive, because ......there is no substitute!
Dont be so somber, this is potentially a good thing! Any respectable p car owner will find his way here and be part of the family anyway! Plus you will be one step closer to your next moneypit! Uh photoshop canvas, you know what i mean!
C'mon Tim....who am I going to get to harrass me? Who's going to be bitching at all the newbies to PTF pics!!?? I hope that if and when you do sell it that you'll come back and drop in. Even though I"m moving over to the TT board, I intend to drop in. This is family here....Y'all come back y'hear?
Chuck
I always told myself if I have to step down in cars, I will just get an older 911. SC's and C3.2's come to mind, proven 200k mile cars, just need an upgrade in the AC department. Just a thought to stay in a 911.
Well, I was going to give you some **** about treating me so badly and kicking me when I am down. However, after thinking about it for about... oh, maybe 1/2 second.... I realized that would be like "the pot calling the kettle black" 'cuz I would have said the same thing to you if the situation was reversed! Thanks for the kind wishes!
Tim...FYI...I just returned a 3 series I leased a few days late. I was advised that they have a "secret" 10 day grace period for returns. Maybe MB has something similar....check it out, may give you a bit more breathing room.
J
Ah Tim, you know we love ya! For those that don't know that we are good friends will think I am being a *****, those that do know this is the very banter we live for
In all honesty, it is very sad for us to hear that a friend will be porscheless soon
If you don't stick around here don't think for a sec that I can't drive down to Charlotte and whip your *** into shape
it is only a car!
there is more in life than driving a Porsche!
You can
....... and ehhhhhhh
........hmmmmm
....welllllll
........mmmmmhhhhhhhhh
.......you know
........
damn there is nothing better in life than driving a Porsche!
Tim you are royally F'ed.
Ofcourse I am just kidding
......one thing I realized that things can change for better (and worse) within a very short period of time.....
Just let the revolving door kick you in the ***.....and you roll right back in!!!

Tim, I'm curious how much lower the dealer's price was compared to what you've been asking for it? Is Rennlist the only place that you listed it? Cars.com, Autotrader, Fleabay, etc.? Surely as long as you've been trying to sell it, and as nice the car is, if it were priced fairly it should sell.
I just sold my BMW motorcycle last night (well, received the deposit anyway). It took 6 weeks, about 5 weeks longer than I thought it would. I got lots of calls and emails on it, but no action until yesterday when I got three offers on it. Things seem to happen in cycles for some reason. And sometimes it just takes patience.
Regards,
Michael
Tim
When I let my '90 964 go in 2002, I figured I wouldn't a Porsche again. Well, I don't...I now own 2!
Thanks for all your help and for making me feel welcome.
Pat
Best of luck with your sale Tim. I was heartbroken for a loooong time when I sold my 944 turbo (about 12 yrs ago now), and finally got back into a 996. The feeling never goes away completely...
Visit often - this place will keep the bug alive, and before you know it, you'll be back
Best wishes to you and yours
Michael - The dealer offered me a "few" thousand less than I have been asking. I had listed it only on Rennlist, as I was reluctant to sell. Circumstances have changed rather dramatically in the past week, so I wanted to see what the dealer would give me "just in case" I needed to move it VERY quickly.
No, not yet. The Inventory Coordinator (a.k.a.Used Car Manager) is currently at Manheim auction in Manheim, PA. He knows 4 or 5 guys that will be there and also looking for cars. He said West Coast dealers will pay more for a car in very good to excellent condition because they know they can sell it for more on teh Left Coast. He is going to "shop it around" for me to see if he can get more than he offered me for the car. I will talk with him on Friday, to see what he was able to do for me.
Tim, now that you're leaving Dell is going to have to run TRIPLE duty now:
(1) newbies need pictures;
(2) RTFM; and
(3) DAFS.
Plus he's running around on the GT3 boad.
Seriously though, we're gonna miss you around these parts. You could always get a 944 and visit the 996 board just for funsies
Glad I was part of the forum while you were around! Best of luck and if you need anything down the DFW way, be sure to look me up!

You guys are acting like I am going to die! I'm ojust selling the Porsche. Just because I won't have a Porsche, doesn’t mean that I am leaving here. I can't kick using crack cocaine and heroin at the same time..... er, wait..... let me rephrase that.... Just as an addict probably can't kick using crack cocaine and heroin at the same time, I won't be able to give up both the Porsche and Rennlist at the same time.
I still plan on hanging out here. Maybe you guys are trying to tell me that I will lose my credibility around here if I don't own a Porsche. Well, my answer to that is, you have to HAVE something before you can lose it, and since I never had any credibility in the first place, then, NO PROBLEM! Damn, that was good! I should have been a defense attorney. Of course, all of my clients (even those charged with jaywalking) would have ended up on death row, but I would have sounded good, eh?
The bottom line is that you guys ain't gonna get rid of me THAT easily!
Like it or not.....
Can you blame us for trying though? Path of least resistance an all...
Now we will have to implement plan B. muhahahahahahahahahahaaaaa. Muhahahahaahhahaha. Mu - ok, you get it
-td <-- thinks you should put that rolling coffin in your Avatar
Oh, nice new icon!
Tim, will you put the rusted out Honda on your avatar (Maybe Chad can make anothe pic for you).
We are just woried we'll lose you to Hondachat, SuperHonda, and Honda-Tech. Although I'm not sure how well you'll deal with thousands of "Bens" on one message board.
I do know those kids will love you when you teach them how to do muffler mods.
I was being nice,,,,because I was kind'a hoping you would leave.....now that you are staying I will be very honest.....get ride of that ugle blue car with that awful grey interior (in has been a thorn in my eye for the longest time!!!)
Did this help any??
I think we should have another Poll for how many of us thinks Tim should sell his Porsche or not. I'm too dense to figure out how to do it. Wellardmac, Ray, gr8330, michael.s.under, Phil etc you guys I'm sure are smart enough to set it up.
I'll miss you Tim! I vote NO!! on selling your car.
tim, whatever you decision, best of luck.
and i bat u won't leave this forum, otherwise, what do you do with spare time?
what's the deal with clk? is it good? wife wants to get one, but afraid of poor qulity rating.
The CLK has been a good car. My wife likes it but it is not really my "cup o' tea."
We had a couple od very small issues with the car, but a LOT of issues with the service at the Charlotte dealership. Only one, as in (1), time did they get the service right the first time! All other times required that the car go back to "get it right." They overfilled the tranny fluid the first service, they overfilled the oil on the last service, and many screw up in between. The service level, or lack thereof, soured me on MB.
Arnee - thanks, I have already found the exhaust I want to put on my Honda. Who knew you could make a 12 HP engine sound like this!

Agreed, no need to completely vacate! What about that 996 that was built on another chassis? That gold one, I think it was built on a VW chassis. That one was cheap!
Ray, I can do that but each vote will cost $1,000. All proceeds will go to the "Keep Tim From Buying a POS" fund.
I figure all I need is 85 to 90 votes and, after adding the $5,000 I am planning on spending on the POS, I can get a nicely optioned 997 S.
Okay that was completely unnecessary Tim....
......I know I have a tip......
....the one time I listended to my wife!
BUT how about this one Tim......at least I am going to keep mine!
Hey I had a 90 Honda Civic hatch like that. Great commuter car with 38mpg to boot. You definitely have to learn to be a momentum driver with all of its 92hp.
somehow I am thinking you are just kidding around about getting ride of your P-car!!! I am mean...getting ride of the car is one thing but than going all the way down to a Honda (an old one!!) why not a nice used BMW 3 series?? Or a new VW Jetta or Rabbit...they are cheap but nice and great rides (ask me how I know?? I like cheap great rides!! that was until I married my wife
