Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was coming back from swimming at lunch. I work about 14 miles from any city down a country road which is in very good condition. The county was doing road work on the shoulder and holding up traffic about 5 minutes. Well about 4-5 miles past the road work, 3 state troopers are cruising, and 2 of them have people pulled over, giving them tickets. I think it's just rediculous that my tax dollars go for such an obvious effort just to give tickets. I mean, the road was clear, no one was doing over 70 mph, and there's not anything in site! I respect our police but I think this is just an effort to generate money, no more, no less. All I can say is when you come through SC, slow down!!

POST 3Original post

They are generating revenue plain and simple. Check out the editorial in Car & Driver this month.

POST 4Original post

Imagine taking your beast of a 993 on that road, tickets galore.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just wonder why they can't find anything better to do? I mean I don't think SC ranks at the top of the least crime list. I would think there must be SOME crimes needing the attention of our finest than just writing tickets! If you want folks money, go up on sales taxes or something. Or better yet, cut out traffic cops!

POST 7Original post

Catching criminals cost money. Catching people who speed makes money. It's really that simple.

Not so sure that is a good idea. UK did, and look what it got them.

POST 9Original post

Try living in Ontario! A new law that went into effect last week allows police officers at their personal discretion, to impound your car for 7 days and suspend your license along with a fine from a $1000 to $10,000 if you're clocked doing 50 km/h over the posted limit. Sounds fair, right? Except traffic on a typical clear day on Hwy 401 moves at 135-140 km/h including trucks (the limit is 100) so hitting 150 to get buy a flying dump truck spewing gravel is not that hard to do. Also, you have very little recourse until much later when you get a court date to defend yourself...maybe a year later. Meanwhile you've had to pay the fine, lose your car and license for a week and have your insurance record show a charge of "street racing". Oh and if you argue with the police officer, you can be handed another $2,000 fine. If he or she determines that you vehicle has been modified with intent to street race, they can petition to have it crushed. Bye-bye due process of law, because the cops here are now judge, jury and executioner!

POST 10Original post

my wife and I lived in South Carolina for 2 long and painful years and at the end I was traveling back and forth between California and South Carolina. Well, my last day and in town, and the state, for good,I had a rental car and was driving to Atlanta Hartsfield for a flight back to CA. I had just pulled onto the interstate and one exit later was pulled over for speeding. I thanked the cop for my last souvenir from the state!! Don;t miss that place one bit!

Good advice. Better advice is to avoid even flying over there... well, unless you need to use the airplane toilet. Ahh, the joys of having a constitution.

Man, not so sure I'm glad I work in Northern Virginia ...

POST 14Original post

Don't they have quotas they have to meet? I think sometimes they'll just pull you over because they have to catch someone... I've been riding in cars that have gotten pulled over for very questionable reasons...

Don't think they have quotas - they can write as many violators as they catch.

Quotas designates a (requested) minimum number of tickets - of course they can write as many as they can.
