I will simply replace the seats and bar as needed.

I 'll be using these specifically for to and from the track and on track.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am getting some new seats for my car and would like to know if any of you have suggestions or examples with pics. I am looking at the Recaro Sport or Speed seats. The sports look like they would be more comforable and easier to get in and out. The speeds look like they have better support and possibly lighter. Does anyone have experience with either of these? I am 6'2'' so the size is also important. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
MB
Note on the Recaros / Sparcos with adjustable backs. They need to be modified to fit properly. You need to remove the inner adjustment **** and then grind off the metal hub. Takes some work, but they do fit with some modificaitons to them. Just FYI. I just went through this and bought these:

Bought 2.
No. They bolt in with adapters. I am also fabricating custom side mounts to allow me a little more headroom
Yes, that is my intention. Primarily for safety reasons. These seats only weight 16#. Very comfy...
Chad
hey chad, what safety reasons are you referring to? are you thinking you will be trapped in the bucket in a roll over? i'm planning on keeping mine in till the end of TT/DE season.
for my PCA region (golden gate region) the drivers education (DE) and time trial series (TT) ends on september 25th.
i think performance wise they offer the most bang. looking at the cost/performance ratio, it is more worth it than PSE (which can be 1500 bucks with no performance gain but you get great sound). the GIAC+v-flow intake is around 1600 bucks.
I will have a removeable rollbar / harnesses with the seats. I attend about 4-5 events a year. I will simply replace the seats and bar as needed. When I drive the car otherwise, I will use the OE seats.
Chad
hey chad, which roll bar? is it easy to remove? i have bee looking for an easily removable yet effective rollbar. the tequipment rollbar, although very nice, seems to be more on the permanent side.
I decided to go with the Tequipment bar with the center section. It has a relatively short profile. Easy to get in and out if I have to. I liked the DasSport bar, but it appeared to be larger and a more permanent installation.
Besides, I got a really good deal on one from Sunset Porsche. Oh..!! I got an INCREDIBLE deal on Sparco 3" camlock 5-point harnesses. $99 / set. See here if you need them:

Chad
ooh, can you tell me how much?
after seeing rockitman's DIY it didn't look like an easy removal. i want something i can easily remove between DEs so it'll be safer for the street.
Hey, thanks for the link, karlooz. I just saved the whole thing to my HD.
I just may do it, and use it year round. All this talk about unhelmeted heads being bashed in by small accidents is nothing but hype, IMHO. I just bought the 987S, and the roll hoops are not any farther from my unhelmeted head there than they would be with the GT3 seats and the techquipment roll bar in the C4S. My only hesitation is losing the rear seats when I still have kids just willing to cram themselves in there. That, and the raised eyebrows in the Porsche dealership if I ever have to bring it in for warranty work
.
DOH! i think it was you and mooty (or was it moogle?) who convinced me that roll bars and street car do not mix. AAARRGGH, what do i do now? hehehe
987S, sweet! i miss my boxster
. i always wondered about the proximity of the boxster roll hoops.
first thing you gotta do is the evo intake. i had it and the sound was amazing since the intake was right behind your head!!! couldn't wait for the caymanS club sport huh?
cheers
Heh-heh
, sorry, but I do think I was part of that roll bar and bare heads don't mix club. Seeing those hoops in the 987S changed my mind, though.
I acrually have a sinister plan with the 987S
. It's kinda hard to convince the wife that I "need" a track car. So, I got the 987S to get her into the track. Once she's hooked, and I'm sure she will be, it's Cayman club sport time!!!!
Chad, how much do your factory seats weigh, and what version seats do you have (i.e. full power, leather, heaters, etc.)? 16lbs has got to be A LOT lighter. Thanks!
Arena - I am not sure on the weight of my factory seats. I am willing to bet around 45-55#. I have supple leather full memory power seats. Lotsa doodads in there.
I'll post when I get some of my fabrication done.
