Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

There's a couple S/C kits for the N/A Carreras, and they are around 12k installed (I think, but somewhere around there).

I am going to check on it this weekend, didnt get to last weekend but I know now without climbing underneath and taking off the underbelly the tranny mount is KO'd.
Leading evidence: 'Install (i think' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Wow you guys, I have 50k on clock, a bit under 15k on replaced engine, and I have been trying to conserve miles lately.

Just hit 93,000 yesterday and the car is still running strong.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

And I thought I was one of the only few with high mileage!
I'm rolling onto 81,000miles...and hoping everyday that I've passed the engine-failure jinx.
We don't hear of big numbers here too much.
Tippy, did you ever find the cause of your transmission issue?
I never had another occurence in mine since then, but I'm still gonna schedule a transmission service when I can find some time, and to just check out the transmission mounts as 911firehawk suggested.
I dont feel bad anymore...infact Newport you have INSPIRED ME!
I drive every dang day from South Pasdena to Century City! Only 19miles..but take an hour and 15 mins....traffic! UGH! I am about to hit 30K soon..I am at 27.5 right now and I was dreading the mileage..but crappers..the car should be drivien right?
Awesome guys!
My hearty congratulations on your 100K mark! This is the sort of thing I like to hear, rather than the all to frequent bad news about blown engines, RMS, intermix etc. I hope that you did this with the same engine you started out with.
Chuck
100,000 miles, ie 162,000km, way to go! Agree I think we here way too much about the M96 engine not being good, I do not think that is true. Yes it does have some issues like the RMS and unfortunately some people received the sleeved engine but by far most of us have good engines in some wonderful cars. Here is hoping for another 100,000 miles of happy driving!
ORIGINAL CLUTCH???? Do you drive over 50 miles per hour? Are you a long haul trucker but driving a Porsche? I didn't think you could get 100K out of a clutch....I guess congrats X 2 are in order.
I have tracked my car numerous times, and I have more speeding tickets than I care to admit. The fastest I've gone in the car is 165 mph. I am very smooth with my gear shifts and never 'drop' the clutch though (well, almost never...).
Original clutch here at 103k. Yes I drive fast and don't baby it. I do however need a clutch in the coming months, since it's slipped a few times on hard starts. It seems that once it gets pretty hot that it'll sometimes slip when hitting second gear at high rpms and full throttle.
looks like you'll need a few mods b4 you hit 200k then
btw are there S/C or TT packages for an N/A C2??? and if so how much do they cost and what are the performance gains in comparison to a stock 996 TT??
I'm gonna take a picture when it turns 150k at 150mph.
There's a couple S/C kits for the N/A Carreras, and they are around 12k installed (I think, but somewhere around there). They'll give performance similar to a stock TT. I think they have less torque, so they are slightly slower- but just slightly.
well I once did 160 in the VR4, but I think I was "only" at like 130k... now I'm sitting at 152k, only problem is I'll have to wait until July 1st b4 I can drive it again being that I'm 4k+ miles away from home until then
either way, all these 100k stories keep me dreaming of the day soon that I get my own 996 and can tell ppl when I turn the clock at 100k myself!
I am currently sitting at 82,000 miles. All with original clutch, original engine, original transmission. The car looks like it is new. I do think it drives a bit better than new though.
I am going to check on it this weekend, didnt get to last weekend but I know now without climbing underneath and taking off the underbelly the tranny mount is KO'd. It is getting worse and shakes the car under hard launches or shifts. Since it shakes I know it isnt the axle as I thought in the past.
111,000 here original everything except for a MAF, Starter and ROW030 suspension swap @ 100k as a gift to the car;o). Has never even had a paint touch up, would like to do that and replace the windshield, the stone chips drive me crazy in the morning this time of year.
When I first read the title to this thread, I thought maybe Phil had started it and was telling us how many miles he had driven in his
entire life!
BTW - he's 58 years old!
I heard that! I am DYING to replace my windshield. I'm just waiting for the inevitable stone on the highway to crack it, but it never comes. It's so pitted that you can't see anything if the sun hits it the right way and you're not wearing sun-glasses.
Wow you guys, I have 50k on clock, a bit under 15k on replaced engine, and I have been trying to conserve miles lately. I give you guys credit for driving it like we all want to!!!!
Congrats Paul.
Newport, Your 996 is the second highest mileage I have seen. I saw the highest one the way back from the beach this summer...177k miles on a 2000 996. Car looked really great except for the cracked fiberglass rear aero kit and rash on the front bumper. Owner said it was all original except for the aftermarket aero kit and clutch.
