Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i have a new steering wheel and have read the manual about how to replace ...how hard is it?...playing with the airbag makes me a little skittish? any help appreciated

POST 2Original post

first remember to disconnect the battery. I have a diy..pm me with your email and I'll send it.

POST 3Original post

disconnect the battery. remove the airbag..there are 2 screws which hold it in..they can be reached from behind (thats what she said )...they're torqued on with a LOT of force...i pretzled a snap on socket getting one of em off. once the airbag is out, disconnect it and then the wheel replacement process is self explanitory. take off the wheel by removing the big huge nut you see in the center, put new wheel on, and then put your airbag back in. don't reconnect the battery until you are finished, that way it won't trip the stupid airbag dash light and....well its safer too

POST 4Original post

Make sure you line up the wheel in the proper position so it is centered. Turn the old wheel so it is perfectly straight first.

POST 5Original post

^ good point. mark off the location. i didn't do that so now my new wheel is a bit offcenter and i'm just too lazy to adjust it lol

POST 6Original post

Also make sure the battery has been disconnected for at least 30 mins befor you start working on it, I just did a carbon fiber wheel and it was done in 15 mins....real simple DIY.

POST 7Original post

don't worry about the battery just make sure you use the right size head for the 2 threads.
