Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Run away' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run away' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That doesn't sound too far off market value....what is the condition and options on the car? Are there maintenance records? That would be one of the cheaper sub 50K mile MKII 996 I have seen in SoCal for a bit.
That's just slightly above the KBB private party excellent value. There are a few 911's on cars.com with a few more miles with an asking price of a lot less. Remember no one pays top dollar for cars (or shouldn't). I would say a final price of $35K would probably be a good deal.
A few months back, I was looking at a private party 2002 996, 6 speed lapis blue with 18K miles. I believe we offered them 36K and they wouldn't take it at first. The car has a lot of cosmetic issues so we passed and then after I bought my 2002 996 Lapis Blue six speed with 22K miles from a dealer with 2 year warrenty for 46K, they called back and said they would take the 36K. Looking back, I'm glad I paid the extra 10K for a car with a warrenty and in much better shape.
Having said all that, I think your deal sounds pretty sweet.
My 2004 Lapis Blue C2 is for sale. It has 44,300 miles on it and I am asking $46,000. Here is a link to the ad in teh Classified Section.
2004 Lapis Blue C2
he's priced very aggressively. if the cars equipped right and in the right condition it would sell for over $37,000 wholesale at the auction...there averaging over $36k WHOLESALE...
If you want a perfect, and I mean perfect, 2003 Targa, send me a message. 15K miles, under warranty, multiple concours winner. Arctic silver and black, 6-speed. No winters, very little rain, no excuses, no stories!
How much are you asking for the Targa?.........I use to be a very active rennlister, but I havent had a P-car for almost two years. I just sold my M3 to my brother, and I really want to get into a P-car again. I have had a couple p-cars for the past years, then I wanted something differnt, so I bought a M3 SMG.
I was looking at 993s, they are my favorite Porsche, but they are soo old. Then I looked at the 99-01 911s, but i rather have the 3.6 and the newer lights. So I set out to look for 02-04 996 coupes. Most of the are priced 40-50K, but I know they arent really selling. looking on autotrader and cars.com, you have soo many options. I'm not in a rush, so I can wait til I get a good deal. The owner of this car is asking 40K, thats not how much i'm going to pay. I'm getting a PPI this week.
Just do a search on cars.com across the country. For $40K I would want this one. Of course this is an asking price, you should be able to get it a bit lower.

$40K is in no way a great deal for a base model 2002 closing in on 40K miles. Average maybe, but it's not great. There are a lot of 996 models out there, you should be able to get a pretty good deal as they get older.
Hmmm, 10K difference is really a lot. Just how bad were the cosmetic issues? While the warranty is nice, it is not worth 10K added to the value of the car. You blow the engine you are only out about 12K without a warranty. Plus after two years the difference in what you can get for either car is not going to be too different.
I just picked up a similar car for south of 40k and feel that while 35k is likely for cars that are relatively beat that a price in between there is do-able.
