Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, need a little help on this. My good friend has a 2000 996 cab with 16000 miles. He said over the last year he noticed a rattle on acceleration or over a bump. It sounds like its coming from the drivers side rear wheel. The stealer said it needs two rear struts replaced for $2000. They also stated they have never seen a strut problem in the 996, and it still may not be the problem. Any thoughts or help would truly be appeciated ..Thanks

POST 2Original post

the other day, I had to tighten up the sway bar links. It was making clanking noise over bumps.

POST 3Original post

My car had this sound with the old drivers side muffler but mainly did it on startup (at startup it really sounded as if something *very* bad was wrong with the engine). It was a clattering knock sound that I normally wouldn't associate at all with the muffler, but after putting on an aftermarket exhaust the sound completely went away. Later I read that this was a fairly common problem with the stock exhaust. Something to think about in trying to diagnose.

1) These cars are notorious for noises heards in one area, but coming from another. 2) My muffler was making a rattle, and it sounded like the wheels. 3) I wasn't lucky enough to have a loose heat shield or a muffler mount. I had to get a new muffler. 4) (OT) Creaking sounds from the dash are probably actually the windshield 5) Can you video/record the sound and put up here or youtube? -td

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

He replaced the struts and the noise completely went away and porsche NA picked up half the cost! Talk about standing behind your product and a great dealer diagnosis. Thanks for the help guys.. There is no substitute.

POST 6Original post

Glad it worked out for you. Two comments. When you have rattles, get a rubber mallet, get under the car and start banging on things until you find where the sound is coming from. (*how i diagnosed my rattling cat). Second, but now too late, $2000 is outrageous for 2 new shocks! you can buy the entire M030 suspension (4 shocks, 4 springs, 2 swaybars, and bushings) for $1100. Might be time to find another dealer or consider upgrading your suspension.
