Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
The problem is the amplifier (see my post on renntech for full story).
Leading evidence: 'amplifier (see my post' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'amplifier (see my post' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuse h6 (i believe) mine appeared' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I checked to make sure mutes not on and changed channels from am/fm/cd but nothing seems to work.

Dealer ran computer check and found a radio fault - replaced the unit at no cost, but it still didn't work.

Unsuccessful attempt
I had this same issue with my car, which is also equipped with a factory 6 disc changer. Dealer ran computer check and found a radio fault - replaced the unit at no cost, but it still didn't work.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

(2003 C4S) Check fuse H6 (I believe) Mine appeared to be good but replacing it fixed the problem.
Has anyone experiened this before...I got into my car today and no sound is playing. The radio seems to be working fine, ie -- turns on and off volume will go up and down. I checked to make sure mutes not on and changed channels from am/fm/cd but nothing seems to work.
The HiFi uses an external amplifier in the trunk. I can't remember if the fuse is on the same power supply as the head unit but have you checked fuses? The HU also triggers the amp to come on, maybe it is not happening. You need a test light to check power to the amp. One wire should only be hot when the HU is turned "on" and vise versa, dead once the HU is turned "off". If the trigger wire is hot to the amp and the amp is receiving continuous power on another wire, the amp could be dead.
I had this same issue with my car, which is also equipped with a factory 6 disc changer. Dealer ran computer check and found a radio fault - replaced the unit at no cost, but it still didn't work. They then replaced the CD changer - also at no cost, and the system's been working fine since.
mine does that on occasion. I press and hold the CD button and it reboots the radio back to life. Sometimes locking the car and letting it sit for a 1/2 hour works too.
Happens here... do you have the bose high end option?
Fix is to pull fused D8 and D9... resets amp, which is usually the problem, it will work after that. Ross
Thanks guys, this ended up working for me--just letting it sit. My factory warranty is coming up in a month...wondering if it would be worth it to have them look at it.
I had this problem too. (2003 C4S) Check fuse H6 (I believe) Mine appeared to be good but replacing it fixed the problem. This fuse is also tied into a fuel inlet solenoid (or something) that would not allow me to put fuel into the car Replacing this fuse corrected both problems.
After checking the fuse mine looked fine so I took it to the dealer. They charged me $60 to diagnose and replace the fuse. Try replacing the fuse even if it looks good.
Let us know how it turnes out
Mine also did that (worked again after letting it sit - at first.) but eventually it stopped working and would not come on again. If you are under warranty have it checked.
Same here... its a ticking bomb. The problem is the amplifier (see my post on renntech for full story).
Got a replacement off of ebay, put it in and works (although still exhibits same problem once and a while).

Don't want to dis Porsche (Becker) but these stereos are cr@p!
Been through three so far in the 986 - complete POS - they run so hot it's no wonder they always fail.
