As a fellow Cab owner my advice is to make sure you also clean the drains regularly.

Also I can recommend putting an exhaust on, that was my best investment.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Folks,
So the scored bores didn't scare me off enough I purchase last night, 2000 Cab, Carrera 2, 102k miles, stick shift. Hard top included.
Lots of Porsche service records, 1 previous owner who was quite wealthy and seemed to baby the car.
Think I got a good deal at $14.8k + taxes
I drove it (6 miles! lol) and immediately put it in my garage ready for its IMSrectory, plan is to drop the tranny this saturday then next weekend during the 3 day break do the IMS, new clutch kit, new RMS etc.
Then other stuff like coolant, AOS.
I bought the Pelican parts IMS universal bearing. I couldn't find anything bad about it and this car won't be having loads of miles put on it, or tracked etc.
Thanks!
Chris
Welcome, I am sure you will have a great time with the Cab. As a fellow Cab owner my advice is to make sure you also clean the drains regularly. This is probably more critical in a cab then the IMSB. What happens is the block up, it floods inside the car, and you don't notice right away as the carpet has a lot of sound proofing. Eventually the water gets high enough to short out your alarm module which is under the seat. This is a fairly common occurrence with Cabs. This creates a whole lot of fun, that makes sure next time you will clean out the drains. Fairly simple DIY. Also I can recommend putting an exhaust on, that was my best investment.
Nice cab, looks like a solid buy at that price -- especially with service records!
I'm (obviously) a big fan of the cab. Let us know if your bearing is single- or dual-row; my car (10/99 build) is dual-row.
Depending on service history, think about a new serpentine belt, water pump & thermostat. Fairly cheap insurance if they haven't been done lately. Also, the LN screw-on filter adapter is a must IMO.
If the rear window is a little cloudy, some Novus polish will fix it up. Also, a good coat of 303 or Raggtop protectant is a must on these tops. If you've got a few bucks left in your budget, the SmartTop module (one button up/down) is a nice addition.
Welcome to the slippery slope!
I second the Smart Top module. It makes the cab what it should have been from the start. And at 6'6" it sure makes it easier to get in and out of when the top retracting as I am walking up.
