At least until I feel good about the overall condition and replace anything else that may need more immediate attention.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

29 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I decided to pull the trigger on a 996. A friend of mine owned the car for the prior three years. Nearly zero maintenance history. I know the spark plugs, plug tubes and front cooling fan have been replaced recently. But that's about it. So far couldn't be more pleased with the car. Handles like none other that I've driven. 1999 C2 tip 145k

POST 8Original post

Congrats looks just like my old 99 I sold a few years ago.

POST 10Original post

White? Love it. Must be a rare color. First one I've seen on here

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Some body else was saying that white seems to be a somewhat rare color. I really like it in white. Honestly, the 911 was not even on my radar until a couple of months ago when I mentioned to my friend if he was ever interested in moving on from his I might be interested. At the time I was driving a 2001 BMW 3 coupe (since sold to help fund this purchase) and was looking to possibly upgrade to an M3. Instead I started looking into the 996 market and lurking on here for info. In my opinion the 996 offers exceptional value with great performance and looks for the price. While I got the car at what I consider a very fair price at $9500 I am anticipating maintenance costs as I plan to essentially DD the car in the good weather months.

POST 12Original post

White is definitely a rarer colour! Looks great.

POST 14Original post

Nice looking C2 especially in white. Now go catch some stripers!

POST 16Original post

Nice car like the white. I am also in Massachusetts although it is hard to admit sometimes. Best of Luck with the car.

Welcome to the Club! She's beauty that will only grow on you with time! Bill

POST 20Original post

Awesome price and also like the white. Hope you find there is lots of enjoyment left in this one for you.

POST 22Original post

Nice. Looks like an early 1999 with a 1998 build date. That's a good thing. At your purchase price, you can spend several thousand on maintenance and still feel very good about the overall cost.

POST 23Original post

Beautiful car. Actually you do have a service history...for the last three years...everything the PO did and didn't do. If the PO didn't change the brake fluid, it is time for you to. Original IMS bearing or has it been replaced? If it makes you uncomfortable, now is the time to do it. Motor mounts? Coolant tank and cap, serpentine belt, bushings, etc.? Just have your wrench put the car up on a rack and start servicing/fixing anything and everything that looks worn.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the compliments on the car. I got some decent seat time in her the other night as I took her down to Wareham for my sons baseball game. Both highway and country roads going about 120 miles round trip. Very enjoyable ride.

I agree plenty of room to do some proactive maintenance on the car and not feel underwater at all. At some point I'm going to decode the VIN but why do you think it's an early model and what would be "good" about that?

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14195143

Regarding the IMS at this time I'm going to leave it. At least until I feel good about the overall condition and replace anything else that may need more immediate attention.
