Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had to take off the front left tire to diagnose a really bad squeal (tiny piece of asphalt was caught between the inside disk brake and the disk brake protective plate). Attached is a photo of the wheel well liner. Ouch! Looks like the original owner ran over something that cracked it pretty good. My question is: Should I replace this, given that someday I'll drive her in the rain? Thanks. Tom 2003 C2 Cab, Dark Teal

POST 2Original post

You could probably just attach a piece of heavy plastic over the hole instead.

POST 3Original post

if its cheap enough, replace it! or get a used one!

POST 4Original post

Shouldnt' be that hard to find at a wrecking yard. Replace it.

POST 6Original post

did the PO have a tire come apart? Might be consistent with a belt delamination...

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't know what happened. Nothing popped up in the service or warranty records. But a tire delam is a good guess. tom

What is the purpose of owning a nice car but allowing stuff like this to remain broken. To me this is part of ownership of an expensive car. Now if the car was a $500 beater that is a different story. BTW, the wheel liner is cheap, maybe $60-$70. Replace it. I replaced one of mine because it developed a crack. While you are at it check out the other aero plastic parts on the car. It is very likely that some of small bits have been broken. Parts like the little lip that hangs down in front the wheel on the underside of the car and the brake cooling ducts seem to get broken. They are not that expensive to replace. Tip...when replacing the wheel liner get new plastic pop rivets (something like 12 cents each) that hold it on because salvaging all the old ones is sometimes difficult.
