Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm going to have this checked out with a diagnostic reader, but does anyone know if the alarm LED flashes out diagnostic codes? When I lock with the remote I don't get any horn sound indicating a problem, but the LED flashes 21 times, then flashes every 2 seconds. I've searched here & renntech and found references to the LED flashing slow and fast, but can't find anything mentioned about what that means, or the LED signaling diagnostics, in my manual. Thanks. Tom

POST 3Original post

My car does the same thing. The 21 flashes (2Hz fast flash) take about 10 seconds to complete. That appears to correspond to the time in which all the alarm inputs are polled to establish inactive from active inputs. From the shop manual (paraphrased): Only inputs that remain inactive for the entire 10 seconds can trigger the alarm at the end of the inactive period. All other inputs are blocked from triggering an alarm for as long as they remain in the active state. Otherwise, the manual doesn't indicate any diagnostic codes available on the indicator LED. That requires the diagnostic system.

Tippy: Tried the console lid, engine and trunk, glove box, and passenger doors. No joy. Doug: It's a pity that Porsche didn't utilize the LED as a way to figure out what item was the culprit. Which reminds me, Doug: where is a good place (i.e. CHEAP) to get a shop manual? Tom

Tom, did you ever install a SSK? The microswitch under the console is easy to snap off when doing any install work in this area, and that could lead to your issue. Just a thought...

Maybe I misread your initial post, but other than the flashing of the LED (which appears to be normal) what problems are you having with the alarm? You used to be able to download specific sections on a fee basis from the Porsche site ( https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/index.jsp ). However, that functionality seems to have been removed sometime in the past 3 months or so.

No misread. I should have been clearer. The 21 flashes is something new. It used to just start flashing. I read your description as meaning that the alarm was compensating for something that was not operating correctly. Today I'm getting the double flash, which means something is not closed, but it didn't do the horn beep. So something is definitely amiss. This alarm control was replaced when I first got it, while under the last two months of original warranty. All of this started right after I was working near the car and the remote buttons in my pocket kept getting pressed while lifting boxes. Maybe some weird combination of lock and hood release did this, or maybe just coincidence. tom

POST 8Original post

Well, mine does the same thing with the 21 flashes and the alarm seems to otherwise work fine so if you do find something wrong, post back and let me know what it is.
