This is not a probability of success.

I understand there are those that feel oem is the only acceptable option, but I'd like to hear about folks who have actually purchased, prepped, and installed replica skirts, and what their experiences were.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am about to begin the process of piecing together an MK I aerokit for my 99. I've already decided to go oem for the front bumper, but I am trying to figure out if oem is the only way to go for the side skirts as well. I understand there are those that feel oem is the only acceptable option, but I'd like to hear about folks who have actually purchased, prepped, and installed replica skirts, and what their experiences were. My thought is that as long as aftermarket units do not need much prep work, and the fittment looks good, it might not be crucial to have the poly oem units, since the skirts will not contact road debri, curbs, driveways, etc... like a bumper would. Any opinions would be great. Scott.

POST 2Original post

Uh oh, be very careful about asking these guys to post pics of skirts. I have heard though since I am also on the hunt that poly is the best way to go. Fiberglass is definately cheaper. I have heard the issues with this is warping and cracking after some time. Good luck, Ill let you know how my search progresses!

POST 3Original post

If I were going to get some side skirts for the 966, they would be OEM. Poly holds up better than fiber glass.
