Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It had been salvaged in another state & the title was "cleaned".
Leading evidence: 'Clean "' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'buying chuck's car will turn out' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean "' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. It needed a new battery & two suspension sensors replaced ($250).

Suspected cause
I suspect buying Chuck's car will turn out to be a pretty good move, as it was so nice, and in my opinion, probably could be made pretty nice again.

It needed a lot of cleaning & is missing a few minor pieces that I can pick up from the salvage yard.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I guess I should clarify my title. I just purchased Chuck's crispy critter, so now I have another burned 996 project car....you'd think that I would have learned my lesson after the first one. I hold my fellow Rennlist members partially responsible because all of you have helped fuel my enthusiasm for our incredible cars.
I took delivery of the car this afternoon and have started the cleanup process. I purchased two other project cars last week from the insurance auction (an 05 Range Rover and a 03 BMW 330i). When it rains, it pours.
Thanks alot for putting the idea in my head Tim
I fear that my addiction is growing worse. My wife and I can look forward to having his and her's 996s. It should be fun. If I have to sell the blue 996,the ebay ad will read...."upgraded full leather interior, this car is really HOT"
Here are some pictures for your entertainment.
We seem to like the matching car theme. I will be selling the 99 Supercharged SVC Rover, the 01 SL600, and the 03 BMW 330i in order to keep the 05 Rover and the two P-cars.
Thanks again Chuck for the new addition to my overcrowded garage. I'll be hapy to allow conjugal visits with your old 996....I'll even hold the keys to your new 996tt for you....I promise I won't deflower her.
I apologize, my camera had waterspots on the lens in some of the pictures.
Mark - you are welcome! Glad I could help!
Seriously - since you a) were looking for a new "project" and b) had already rebuilt the back half of a 996, I figured that Chuck's car was the perfect project which would allow you to rebuild the front end of a 996. I was actually wondering how long it would take you to get "involved" in this one.
I am looking forward to reading periodic progress reports on Chuck's.... er, I mean.... your new 996.
Mfletch...GL with your new project, looking forward to your rebuild. Please keep us updated... better yet, you should start a thread and give us progress reports... It would be valueable as we have very little experience whats behind the dash. I have schematics and I can print them out and send them to you. If you want or in need of them PM me for you address. GL!
Mark, congrats! Serously, you are my hero. Doing what you are doing with these cars is totally what I would love to do some day. I suspect buying Chuck's car will turn out to be a pretty good move, as it was so nice, and in my opinion, probably could be made pretty nice again. Here's my suggestion: if you can clean the white gunk off the leather, get some "hide food" leather treatment. I've tried them all and this product is seriously magic! Keep us posted!
MarK: I read this with a twinge of envy....wishing that I had the aptitude and confidence you have to rebuild cars the way you do. I really was fond of that Iris Blue baby and she's got a lot of good stuff in her. I'm just glad you got her rather than have her dumped in some strange salvage yard and torn apart for her pieces. I'll be coming up to see your progress now and then....but first I've got to buy another chariot.
Chuck
Tim, thanks again for the "help" with finding a new project. How did you know that I was dying to know what was going on under the dashboards of our cars?
Reid, the RR had a clean title. It had been salvaged in another state & the title was "cleaned". It needed a new battery & two suspension sensors replaced ($250). It had been sitting with the window open in a dry, dusty climate for a long time...it only has 19,000 miles. The paint is new, but poor quality. I have found no evidence of major damage anywhere other than the crappy paint job. We will be able to enjoy it off-road without scratching the pristine paint. It needed a lot of cleaning & is missing a few minor pieces that I can pick up from the salvage yard.
The BMW has a clean title also. It has previously been hit in the front & repaired. The automatic transmission would only go into 3rd gear when my Dad & I drove it home from Washington (@800 miles). It had a loose connection on the transmission controller....now it runs perfect with 59,000 miles. The lights weren't hooked up properly after the body repair. I have to clean and connect some wires. The body & interior were clean. The paint could use a good buff & wax. Thanks for the words of encouragement.
Larry, I paid $29,500 plus tax & fees for the Rover, $12,150. plus tax & fees for the BMW, and $11,921 for the Porsche.
Kolshak, it's #4 for me...they are built like tanks. All of the cars at the insurance auction are fork lifted several times. It didn't hardly scratch the underside of the Rover. Thanks.
Redridge, I will be happy to post pictures as it progresses...I'm looking forward to diving into it. I really appreciate your kind offer of the schematics, I will gladly take you up on it...I'll PM you later, Thanks.
Scott, I would enjoy hanging out & playing with the Pcars with you and your dad....if we only lived a few hundred miles closer. Thanks for the kind words. Is the hide food you are referring to made by Connelly? If so, I have it... and it works great. Playing with the cars is a nice distraction from our regular jobs. How is your knee?
Chuck, thanks so much for trusting me with your "baby".....when you are leaving me in your dust as you are driving the new Turbo, you will have something pretty to look at in your rear view mirror.
congrats, you are partaking in my favorite past time! Re builds! I havent gotten into 4 wheelers yet though! Good luck, cant wait to see the end result!
chsu74, thanks, I'll be happy to take pictures & post updates as I go on the 996.
Michael, thanks for the words of encouragement. What kind of cars have you done? Rovers are fun, the build quality is impressive and the interiors are fit for a queen. I'll post lots of pictures.
Mfletch nice to see someone else having fun with there projects. If you need help finding parts for it let me know maybe I can steer you in the right direction. I rebuilt (It has history it was in Katrina) mine and added some custom stuff like and SC, exhaust etc. It's getting close to finished just on the final stages of the tuning. Have fun.
Tool Pants, I think I would have a little trouble talking the wife into that one.
Mother, it is a shame to let these beautiful cars go to the scrapyard before their time. Your car looks fantastic. I would love to see some pictures of the custom modifications. You have got to have the only home built supercharger application that I have seen. Great Job! That sounds like good old fashioned hot-rodding. Thanks for the offer on locating parts, I appreciate it.
I got 2 words for you Mark......oeps 3 words....YOU ARE CRAZY !!!! BUT in a good way..I wish I had the guts and expertise to undertake projects like yours....I got the space...just not the skill!
Goodluck! and keep up updated with images (off all projects!!)
Nicolaas and hwk72, thanks guys. I really appreciate the kind remarks. I am fortunate to have a very understanding wife....I'm not sure why she puts up with me. My entire family joins in on the fun.
