Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

BTW: my original clutch still had 70% life left at 53,000kms when they pulled the tranny to replace the RMS under warranty.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

is there a difference between a 2002 and 2003 c4s?
what are the issues 996's experienced that I should look for. Originally I wanted a 993 S but the asking prices are very high and I live in a state that has a lot of rough roads so from what i understand the 996 is more "comfortable"
any other thoughts or considerations are welcome!
thx!!!
Find yourself a copy of the last Excellence. Great overview on both the changes that were made from year to year, and the "issues" owners might encounter. Also, do a search here. This question has been asked many times, so you'll find good info.
Only differences between a 2002 C4S and a 2003 C4S is the latter car has MOST for the component wiring. Meaning it uses a fibre optic network between the radio, amp, cluster, etc... Only thing you'll notice, is that it's more involved to install an aftermarket audio system in a MOST equipped car. Other than that, they are identical.
thank you both!
is the oem stereo bad? can it play Mp3s?
my concerns are mostly mechanical. What are the big things I should look out for that are costly?
how long does a clutch last, this for a DD and I plan on treating the car very nice; no track, no racing etc. just some hard driving on sunny days here and there when the freeway is mine
I jsut dont want to dump a ton of cash into mechanical bs like my Rover experience had
thanks again!
Re: the clutch, it has to be said that this is a crapshoot in a pre-owned car. There are guys on this board who have huge mileage on original clutches, and others like me who had to replace mine right after I bought the car with 48,000 miles on it. PO didn't know how to drive, methinks. My first clue: for giggles, I pressed the memory buttons on the driver's seat. Position 2 was, shall we say, set for someone very small and who liked to have a very intimate relationship with the steering wheel. It wasn't a stretch to imagine that this person would be the sort who would ride the clutch... but I digress...
Don't believe everything you read on the web. These cars are very solid and reliable. I've had mine for 1.5 years and have driven it 20K+ Kms now, and it continues to impress. On a previously owned car, longevity of the clutch, brakes and tires is hard to predict since you have no idea how that person drove the car. FWII, the original owner of mine had tracked the car (he sent me a professional photo of the car at the track), but lovingly maintained. This one was in better and cleaner shape than any of the lower mileage, off-lease, dealer cars and garage queens I looked at. Porsche builds sports cars; meant to be driven accordingly and used daily. BTW: my original clutch still had 70% life left at 53,000kms when they pulled the tranny to replace the RMS under warranty.
OEM Radio: not bad...much, much better if equipped with the Bose option. CD won't play MP3 or WMA files.
Get an independent PPI done or you'll only have yourself to blame if expensive surprises pop up later.
