This is not a probability of success.

Although, the one I did contact flat out lied to me about the service intervals to try and get me to change the oil at 8k for $400.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am purchasing a 1999 996 with 60k miles next week. I have a couple of questions and need some guidance. I am going to make an appointment with a local dealer for a PPI. What is necessary for a Porsche approved warranty? Secondly, in Los Angeles, does anyone have experience with independent vs. dealer service? I have taken my wife's Cayenne to Porsche Beverly Hills (found them pretty arrogant and unhelpful) and Downtown LA Porsche (they were pretty good, althoug lousy detailers and expensive) The Cayenne being an '06 doesn't need much so I have not pursued an independent shop. Although, the one I did contact flat out lied to me about the service intervals to try and get me to change the oil at 8k for $400. thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

First off, you can only get a Porsche approved warranty if you buy the car from a Porsche dealer, is that the case? Can't help with LA indy's.

POST 3Original post

It would be very interesting to read a 996 buyers guide. You can find much info here, and quite good advices. In Total 911 magazine you'll find the guide. I wrote my own particular guide but it's in spanish though perhaps it would help you just watching the pics: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...&showfile=1107

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is not being purchased from a dealer, the info on the Porsche website is unclear about the qualifications for a warranty, does anyone know another warranty option for a '99? Is it worth seeking an independent mechanic in genreal? Gracias Joaquin para la guia. Puedo leer un poquito Espanol.

POST 5Original post

I think it's definitely worth the effort to find a good indy. Of course if your Indy is going to charge you $400 for an oil change you probably want to keep looking around. I'm sure a SoCal member will speak up with a recommendation.

POST 6Original post

Your only option if you want to get a warranty on a '99 is an aftermarket third part warranty - Porsche will not warranty the car. If you do a search you'll find lots of discussion on aftermarket warranties on this forum.
