Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You've all read the insurance battle thread... I was driving in the left hand lane of a 4 lane 2 way road traveling south bound. I was traveling at about 45 miles per hour as I was approaching an intersection. There was a white Chevy Malibu in the turn lane of the north bound lane at this intersection I was approaching. We both have solid greens. MY RIGHT OF WAY. As I'm literally 50 yards away from the "stop line" at the intersection she begins her turn left into my path of travel. I hit the brakes a split second before I hit her. The aftermath is two totalled cars. The police report stated it was entirely her fault and she was issued a citation for failure to yield. Luckilly there was a construction crew at the intersection that saw the entire accident and agreed to testify on my behalf if necessary. The driver of the malibu had some glass in her head. I was mostly uninjured except for whiplash and a strained shoulder. Pictures:

POST 2Original post

Damn....you walked away from that, glad to hear that.

POST 3Original post

Glad both drivers were relatively uninjured. It hurts my eyes to see those pics. Hopefully, the insurance situation will go smoothly. Good luck and I hope you find a replacement for it.

POST 4Original post

WHOA! That is a sad scene. I'm sorry to hear that, but like we all would say, I'm glad no one is seriously hurt. Imagine if you had hit her on the driver's side! Will you get enough for a new and equal replacement?

POST 5Original post

Sigh... women BTW glad you weren't injured more seriously

POST 6Original post

NavyC4S- I just finished reading the other thread. You did very well to accept $50K. Nice job and have a good time looking for a replacement.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, I accepted the $50,000 compensation. I consider myself fortunate to walk away from the accident.

POST 8Original post

Awful, very sobering. Was she on the phone or something? Just a momentary lapse of concentration? We are unperfect machines, after all, unlike our cars.

POST 9Original post

It's amazing that were not injured in the accident after viewing the pictures. It just goes to show you how superbly engineered a Porsche is even under adverse circumstances.

POST 10Original post

wow! her car looks terrible! I can't believe she wasn't more hurt. I don't care what ppl say or what the insurance rates claim---the majority of women can't drive!! I swear, in socal 1/2 the women on the road are glued to a cellphone. It drives me crazy! ( I know, tons of guys are on cell phones too.) Back to the point, thank goodness you're OK. I think you made a good move taking the $50k (did they give you sales tax too?). Good luck picking you're next ride...what are you leaning towards?

POST 11Original post

That's nasty! A mess considering that it was only 45mph.

POST 12Original post

How did you manage to have a front end fire? What is there to burn?

POST 13Original post

Navy, you're very lucky to have survived relatively unscathed. Put the car behind you and go find a great replacement. Good luck!

POST 14Original post

I feel your pain. I'm going through that now. My MK I Aero is totaled and am going about looking for a replacement. I just finished physical therapy (3 months worth) last wednesday (I'm not 100% but much better), so I haven't even looked into settlement. Glad you where ok,

POST 15Original post

That's good to know that you can walk away from a serious crash like that! Looks like you could still open your door???

POST 16Original post

Also glad for the (relative) lack of injuries, and the cars both absorbed the energy exactly as designed. A completely destroyed front-end and a solid passenger compartment is what you want to see after a frontal collision. Porsches are safe cars and crash well. Haven't read the other thread, but was the $50k just for the car or did it include signing-off on any future medical claims? Did you get to keep the totaled car?

POST 18Original post

Glad you don't have major injuries. Gotta love the big crumple zone in the front of 911's. I think it was smart to take the $50k for the car.

POST 19Original post

Man, that's scary! Glad you're okay and that you got a decent settlement in short order. Have fun shopping!!

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To answer most questions: I'm not sure what she was thinking or doing, I didn't get the chance to ask her. She was a woman in in her late forties. Who knows. The fire was contained in the trunk and may have started from the bottle of tire shine foam and nitrous tank I had in the trunk! We did put it out in a hurry though. My passenger door was "crimped" shut from the front quarterpanel being bent over it. The passenger window was also broken. The driver door acted as if nothing had happened and opened like normal. I was able to jump out of the car Instantly after we stopped. The passenger compartment was undamaged as far as I could see except for the broken window. The windshield didn't even crack. The white powder is from the fire extinguisher. I am leaning towards a C6 corvette. Not Z06 but I plan on camming it and going the NA route. Also, I only recieved compensation for my property loss but all other medical costs, pain and suffering and what not will be settled later with the other driver's insurance company.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 4486350

It's a real testament to the construction of these cars... not sure a C6 would be recognizable after the same incident... just something to think about.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4486363

It is something to think about. The incident made me realize how amazingly safe Porsches are and I will miss that car dearly. I don't think that I will resort to buying Volvos just because of the risk of an accident though. I have always wanted a C6 since they came out and now I have the chance to own one. I'm only 21, there will be plenty of time for other Porsches. When I have children, I will think twice about putting them in a compact car and after seeing how bad her vehicle faired and that if there was a passenger, they probably wouldn't be vetical now; I wouldn't completely discredit the idea of putting my future children in Porsches.

POST 24Original post

Corvette - pah! I'm disappointed. That's more criminal than the woman trashing your car. Don't forget to buy some gold chains, a case of hair gel and chest wig!

POST 25Original post

Getting rid of my Vette with pre-planned ownership of one-year is due to safety reasons. Vettes are found to be deadly if flipped over (Most German cars even convertibles perform well under the same test). So people ask, how can these low riders flip over? Freeway on/off ramp, going fast and losing control, etc, etc. But regardless, I always wanted one. I guess it's pretty much same with motorcycles. If you gotta have it, you gotta have it. Maybe, that thrill is what attracts people to Corvettes. Anyway, back to P-cars, I was involved in a head-on collision with a pick-up truck at about 20 MPH. My 996 front made its way well into the pick-up and totally the car. My 996 didn't look that bad after this accident, and I was surprised. But, what if our cars were rear-ended where the engine is? Would the car blow up or something? I saw a guy in a brand new 997 rear ended in Beverly Hills, but the damage wasn't that bad since the speed was probably under 30 MPH. What would happen if our cars were rear-ended at much higher speed? Anybody?

POST 26Original post

It is possible to flip a Porsche, but they seem to fair pretty well. I'm told that it happened this year at one of our region's DE events. My understanding is that a rear end collision at speed forces the engine backwards and down so as not to encroach on the passenger cabin... doesn't stop me from being nervous when a Chevy Exterminator approaches at high speed when I'm parked at an intersection.

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 4487227

Yes, the motor mounts will snap causing the motor to drop to the ground as the bumper gets pushed in. Hopefully, we'll never see this in action. Navy - it's good to see your car performed well in sacrificing itself for your safety. Don't buy a vette - they are junk. Especially when compared to Porsches.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 4486350

Did you hit your head? You must have if you are considering a corvette. J/K. Seriously, I am glad your injuries were not more serious. If you decide to get a corvette, I hope it is everytihing you expect it to be. Good luck!

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As much as I would like to but another Porsche, at this point in my life I'm going to take the money and run. I've got two more years of school for my Bachelors and spending $40K on a vette makes much more sence to me than $60K on a Turbo which would obviously have to come next. I will own more Porsches in my lifetime and my track record for keeping cars for about a year will leave plenty of time to experience all that many vehicles have to offer. I do plan on keeping the vette through college. Maybe I can still attend the NJ drives but I promise not to get lost like the last "token corvette guy"

POST 30Original post

I've got to ask - how did you end up in a Porsche in the first place? I'm just curious, as not many students have them.

Sh*t ... that's hell of a scene.... glad everyone invloved walked....... man... things like this **** me off the way they drive....... the money is never the issue but the potential lost of life.....

Ahh, I figured that it was something like that. Nice. I wish I were in your position at 21. We've still gotta convince you to stay with Porsche though. A corvette just will not be the same.

Vettes are fun to drive, but dangerously fun, like motorcycles. Fiberbody is not at all strong as the P-cars. Most flipped over Vettes result in serious injury or death for drivers, which is not the case with German cars (even for convertibles). Knew about these stats, but had to have the Vette. Got my black Vette and only kept it for just over a year, which was pre-planned. A few months later, also got the black 996. Always wanted a Vette, got one, had lotsa fun with it, got rid of it, and kept the 996. Vette is a nice sports car with lotsa torque and power. But I don't miss the car. Cheers

Aren't Vetts for dirty-old-men having a mid-life crisis? j/k...no flames, please.

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My girlfriend drives a vette. She is most certainly not a dirty old man. As JJB said, ia vette was something he always wanted, had it and then moved on. Similar to a one night stand except this may last a year or two
