Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hey guys trying to do my IMS dropping tranny and really struggling to get the car up high enough, my tranny jack is about 6" tall lowest and the tranny looks about 16" on the flywheel end? So I need about 20" clearance I think I'm at 17.5" now but really struggling to get higher, having to add blocks and chocks on all my jacks and stands to get it up. Any ideas?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No idea why pics are rotated?

POST 3Original post

go to harbor freight and buy these cheap jacks , they go up to 23" https://t.harborfreight.com/automoti...nds-69596.html you will need a better jack than the one you have in the pics , i have this one and it can lift 23" https://t.harborfreight.com/2-ton-lo...ump-68050.html

POST 4Original post

I see you are already using wood planks to raise the height. You could continue with that method. Whatever you do just be safe.

Hunt around a little for a coupon on that HF jack ... they usually have deals going on one jack or another. I have two of the 3-ton low-profile jacks that I got a few years back for $59 each. IMO, a no-brainer at that price. I think the current coupon price is usually $79, which is still pretty good. They usually have coupons on the jack stands, also.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i got the tranny out i made a little low profile dolly to lower the flywheel end from these $3 rollers from HF

POST 7Original post

I'm glad you got your transmission out. Now, before you get back under there to change the IMSB please add some more jack stands. Also, replace that scissors jack. That is not stable. If you were my son I would beat your *** for going under something so dangerous! Get yourself two pairs of these and THEN use the ratcheting stands only as backups http://www.ebay.com/itm/Esco-10498-3...4AAOSw4CFYrD3M

POST 8Original post

I am disappointed. With Jacking in the title and the word tranny popping up, all you guys have is helpful comments?

sorry, just don't have much experience jacking a tranny. Always resort to Craigslist

POST 10Original post

If you use 6T jack stands, they extend much higher and are MUCH more stable as the base is twice the footprint. I just picked up a quartet myself after seeing them in action.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice guys, I put an extra jack stand under the engine too on wood as a backup, also have the transmission still under the car but off to one side, if anything happened it would rest the suspension on the tranny
