Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The MAF seems to be the problem with those codes, I cleaned it but haven’t done any further testing.
Leading evidence: 'Clean mass air flow sensor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cam deviations' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I had my car in for engine-out maintenance and had the chains, pads, and tensioners replaced.

Yeah, I paid about $5k to have my tensioner pads replaced and both solenoids replaced last year.

I changed the oil shortly after purchase, nothing in the filter.

When I was checking the FRA and RKAT, I also decided to check the cam deviations.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The 1128 and 1130 codes were solved by a new MAF sensor.
2000 C2 82K miles. Ive had for almost 6 months 3k miles. CEL P01128 the other day. Only other previous codes were P01128, P01130, and P0327. I cleared these back in December to see if they would repeat. When I was checking the FRA and RKAT, I also decided to check the cam deviations. Bank 1 showing over 12 and bank 2 over 4 at time of CEL. I cleared and rechecked, those values stay steady, coming down slightly (11 and 3) as the car heats up. Car drives fine. I changed the oil shortly after purchase, nothing in the filter. Can tensioner pads being worn allow that much deviation? Ive read about the possibility of the tensioner being issue, is there a way to test? Anything else that could be causing this problem? 1st thing I did after purchase was IMSB replacement so that is good.
I would drop the sump if possible. If the tensioners are to blame it's possible that you have bigger chunks in the sump that just never got picked up by the pump and never made it to the filter.
Yes worn pads can through off the cam deviation that far. Just buy all 3 tensioners and replace them too. They r not to expensive. If u have a loose tensioner and real bad pads u can skip a tooth and do bad things to the engine.
Most likely they look like this. mine is a mk1
I never had a CEL, but my MY2000 C2 with 75,000 miles had high cam deviation. I had my car in for engine-out maintenance and had the chains, pads, and tensioners replaced. There were some significant chunks of pad material in the pan.
See post 4719 for what i did but there is still a ton more since the motor will be out.

Fyi, i had about $2k in parts and $500 in tools for my project.
Yikes! At this point I'd start asking myself how much I like the car and if I plan keeping it for a while because an RND engine or a full rebuild is starting to look attractive and addresses other potential issues.
Fortunately, I already did the IMSB myself. Ive reviewed the procedure and think I can handle the pads, just with work and other responsibilities car will probably be down for a month.
fair point. I will likely go through with it because I only paid $14k for the car. My mechanic quoted me $9600 to get the engine completely sorted out, which is hard to stomach but still about half the cost of a rebuilt engine
Definitely understandable! It's not easy to stomach those big bills but luckily with these cars they come only once in a long time, typically. It sounds like you're pretty well versed mechanically and are ok doing the work yourself. Labor is where a lot of the cost typically lies but you can save a lot of coin when doing it yourself. Just take your time, don't rush and double check and you'll be fine.
Yeah, I paid about $5k to have my tensioner pads replaced and both solenoids replaced last year. That cost also included a DME repair for $750-ish due to a burned transistor once the solenoid shorted out.
Its a lot of money, but these cars are high end luxury items, so the price is what it is.
Not yet. The 1128 is the same side as the high deviation and repeated so seems like could be related, but the 1130 side the deviation seems to be within range. The MAF seems to be the problem with those codes, I cleaned it but haven’t done any further testing.
