Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi. Does anyone know if the 3.6 heads can be made to work on a 3.4 block? I have an intermix issue on my 3.4 and have access to a 3.6 long block that needs repair (dont know whats wrong with it, but it does turn over by hand). Easy option might just be to fix my cracked head(s) and save myself the grief. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Highly doubt it. The variocam system is very different between the the 3.4 and 3.6l. Just send the head out for repair.

The 3.4L heads are designed for the 5 chain engines with the VarioCam system that uses a chain adjuster or actuator. The 3.6L heads are designed for 3-chain operation with the VarioCam+ system that uses a vein cell adjustor. I agree with De Jeeper... send your heads to Len Hoffman. He specializes in Porsche head repair and can make the work like brand new! https://newsite.hamheads.com/

Not just that, I believe the sizes of the cooling passages between the head and block differ between the mki and mkii
