Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anybody had any experience with them? I met someone that had a rebuilt by them and then I found this car for sale with a 4.2. When I was involved in Motorsport I knew quite a bit about flow work (flow bench for heads) port polish, bigger valves, extrude hone etc. A few people suggested Hoffman automotive for the head work, rebuild. Im doing all my research, if I take the engine down Ill do some unique things to it. One of my friends has a lambo and then he has a 1,200 hp hell cat, he is obsessed with becoming the fastest hellcat. I have access to his mechanics but Im not certain they know this much about our engines. Any feed back info will be appreciated. Happy mothers day
its really out of this world what he and his company have achieved. Ill like to find out what they can do with the 3.4 cable throttle engine. So far all I have hear its taking it to 3.6, FSI states that these cars are hard to tune, most shops have told me that they dont tune these at all, maybe these guys know some tricks.
Not sure about Lambo stuff but they are great for Porsche stuff. My buddy actually races in POC and uses them extensively. They do all the work on his car as well as race day support. He highly recommends them and has used them for several years.
IMO. There is no magic tune for these air breathing engines. Bigger bore, stroke, head work are the only things that can really improve output. Then some exhaust work. Jake at FSI really knows these engines. But Dwain at Vision is right up there.
I had a great conversation with Steve today at vision. Anyway I had also spoken with Jake and participated in the FSI webinar, it was longer than 4 hours. I dont need an engine but I want to know all the options. Vision was prepping 20 cars for track day at willow springs. Anyway there are noticeable differences between what FSI does and what vision does, vision will give you a warranty but in my case if I go to their 3.8 from my 3.4, I need a center mount radiator. It is going to run hotter. I also need a different clutch and flywheel. Anyway Steve asked questions about my car and said drive it, when it gets to that point then you make the decision, but he clearly stated that most customers when they start hearing the prices they just give up and say they buy another $20,000 to $24,000 car. Vision is using chromoly, not nickies. You can also test some of their stuff. Jake runs a tight ship and its real successful but one of the reasons Im retired is because I dont take orders from nobody now. Seems to me that vision is real flexible and will ask you exactly what you want. Theyll do everything in house. I would love to see their new country club garage by the track.
If youre talking about building a 3.4 m96 engine, just dont. Nobody can make those engines work long term, including Duane who happens to be one of the best in the business. Hes also an honest guy; my guess is that conversation was a very nice way of saying its not worth it. Much better off taking the money and buying a 997.2 (well, before Covid)
If youre talking about the cayman 3.4s, have at it. Vision has made some monster race motors that seem to last and tune very well.
my original3/98 engine is in great shape. Was able to hit 60 in 4.9 seconds (been at 160) All the durametric stuff, fuel trim, cam deviations, 0 over revs 2, manometer shows AOS in perfect shape. No oil consumption. Plugs coils, heat shields were changed 6,000 miles ago. All the fuel delivery system cleaned, piston tops decarbonized. Anyway I already met a guy with 300,000 miles on his. I drove a convertible for sale with 250,000 miles, saw another one with 167,000 miles and in great shape. I just have been learning more about these cars. Also clutch IMs and rms where done 25,000 miles ago. All the work with the exception of the fuel stuff was done by previous owner, plus hr springs, fab speed headers and exhaust, new brake pads and rotors, all fluids flushed changed. I pd $18,000 for the car 4,000 miles ago. What Steve was saying was because of all the work that has been done and everything is in perfect working condition drive until it starts showing symptoms. Im a maniac on maintenance with my cars and make them last a ton, sold a personal 1981 300 turbo diesel with over A million miles. Sold an 1985 735i BMW with over 500,000 miles. Ill learned about this engine and it is not going to die because of lack of maintenance, or that it has been driven incorrectly. Im not tracking the car, Im driving it once or twice a week with a trip to triple digits for fun. Im a retired tribologist, used to formulate motor oils. 997 maybe after 2006, thanks.
Nice article about them - thanks for posting. I really like seeing people rebuilding that are actively participating in Motorsport and the abuses that brings.
