Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Judging for the heavy soot on the tailpipes, I would recommend examining the cylinder bores with a bore scope.
Leading evidence: 'Recommend examining the cylinder bores' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend examining the cylinder bores' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Letting it run before shutting it off doesn’t do a thing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All!
I know there has been a lot of discussions regarding this topic. Scored cylinders, AOS, etc.
I wanted to start with a visual this time.
Smoke happens almost every day if I drive it hard prior to parking it. Letting it run before shutting it off doesn’t do a thing. Smoke clears up seconds after start. As you can see, most smoke comes from passenger side so not typical scored cylinder, which according to many articles, show as smoke on driver side.
If I park it to fill up, no smoke.
if I let it sit for 1h, I seldom see smoke.
any ideas ?

sorry for misspelled title
How long has it been since the AOS was changed out?
Do you have a Durametric to closely examine the health of the engine? (i.e. Fuel trim, rough running, cam deviations, etc.)

Car has 21k miles. I've had it for 4 years. It's been doing this since I got it when it had 10k miles. It does seem like it's doing it a bit more but could be me getting tired of looking like I'm driving an aged diesel.
I've known the car since 2005 and previous owner. He got it with 8k miles when car was 3 years old (it's 2002).
Btw, It also does it on occasion when I rev it towards redline and shift into 2nd. It blows a puff of smoke.
Negative on Durametric. Sounds like a good idea to try that.
Sounds like it's time to swap out that AOS especially if it's smoking during gear shifts. Don't let this simple part fail or it could lead to hydrolock.

If swapping out AOS, consider going to the Ultimate Air Oil Separator (UAOS). It not only replaces a failing AOS, but eliminates future issues as well as making future changes a 15 min job. Developed by a Rennlist member and top notch contributor.

As others have mentioned it very well could be the AOS. If you have access to a manometer you want to test with the car nice and hot and look for a reading of around -5inH2O. Mine failed very badly and had crazy readings of -27 to -60inH2O. An easy test is to try removing the oil fill cap with engine running. There should be no resistance. When mine AOS was failed there was significant vacuum making it hard to remove. If that's the faulty part UAOS is the way to go. I wrote a DIY with photos on the job -
