Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Havent checked the relay because it looks like a total pain to get to it.

Rear brake pads are low and need replacing, fronts look fine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone.
kevin here, just purchased a new to me salvage title 2001 996 cab, 70k miles. Got it in California for cheap. I love gambling. Was told by the PO that it had a replacement low mileage engine installed in 2015 due to an IMS failure, and that the new engine has the replacement IMS bearing installed. I could not confirm this on LNs website with the VIN lookup but I wasnt surprised by that. I couldnt confirm with the shop that did the work because the seller bought it off a salvage company that had another shop do the work (apparently), and there were no records leading back to that shop. Seems fishy i know but I checked the seller out and in my opinion I dont think he would make up this story. I think he just had poor record keeping. So I took a gamble and here we are.
drove the car from northern CA to DFW, about 2000 miles. It ran beautifully. 6 speed shifted beautifully and the engine ran very nicely, even in stop and go traffic in 100 degree heat. It wouldve been nice if the AC was charged, but it wasnt. Overall, it was an absolute joy to drive and so happy I got to experience a road trip with it.
The car is in decent shape cosmetically, no beauty queen but there has been no body work, just normal aging. The PO said the salvage title mustve been from a mechanical total from the engine failure. Who knows. Motor looks much newer than the car itself. Cars been parked for a couple days at my house now. No leaks. Rear brake pads are low and need replacing, fronts look fine. Front bump stops are rotted but the suspension works as it should. Fingers crossed I think I did ok on this thing.
Ive got a running list of to dos on it. Will go thru all fluids. Passenger micro switch in the door latch broke right when i got home as the autodrop feature stopped working. Soft top needs some love, you gotta finesse it closed as it doesnt line up with the molding properly. Ive got a clunk at low speeds when Im turning, sway bars seem fine, bushings on the control arms look ok, end links are all connected, so not sure what that is.
ACTION ITEM I NEED HELP WITH - I found this wiring harness severed on the right side of the engine bay. No idea what this is for. I tried a google search on the part number from the harness and it brought up an old thread that led nowhere.
the wing does not go up or down and the light is on. Doesnt work with the switch in the footwell. Fuse is fine. Havent checked the relay because it looks like a total pain to get to it.
could this severed wiring harness be for the rear wing? Maybe a speed sensor connection? Any idea what this is for?
thanks for the help
