Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I sourced a set of good used mufflers and exhaust supports and have those.
Leading evidence: 'Use mufflers and exhaust supports and have those' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace coil packs/plugs today and all went well' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Remove it the right way (using a drill guide/removal tool) so you dont make things worse.

Thanks, I watched a few videos on the removal procedure yesterday and the use of a drill guide.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So my rusty piece of *&^% 2004 C4S is trying my patience and limited skills with spark plug/coil pack and exhaust refresh. The car spent the first 10 years of its life in Chicago and the exhaust hardware and some other bits on the engine look like they are from the UK.
I got the exhaust off and parts are coming to replace what needs to go. I went to replace coil packs/plugs today and all went well with 1,2,3. The coil pack bolts on 4 and 6 though are being tough and the lower one on 4 broke off in the case after almost coming out. There is nothing there to grab and the exhaust mount is in the way. I could drill through that to try and extract the broken bolt. I also broke one of the heat shield bolts on that side.
Any advice? I've seen some say just to use one bolt for the coil pack and it would be fine but I'd rather do it right if possible. The exhaust hangers on the engine are rusty enough at the bottom I don't want to try and get those off. I'm going to treat them and see if I can save them.
Ugh, never buy a a midwest or east coast car I guess.
I bought a Midwest car... Rusty, yes (I broke a bunch of exhaust bolts, and some of the suspension stuff was very difficult) but I never broke any engine hardware. Be patient and always pre-soak/treat fasteners prior to trying to loosen them. Of course, sometimes theyre going to break no matter what you do. Remove it the right way (using a drill guide/removal tool) so you dont make things worse. Good luck
Thanks, I watched a few videos on the removal procedure yesterday and the use of a drill guide. Good call. They were soaked for days and moving which was frustrating. It broke with about an 8th of the bolt left in the case. I have one other acting the same way. The rest came out relatively easily. I sourced a set of good used mufflers and exhaust supports and have those. Waiting for a few hardware bits to arrive and then hopefully I can put it together. Thankfully the cats came off the headers ok.
