Fitment was a little tricky, I had to adjust the convertible top cover to clear the top of the wing as it just slightly made contact with the top of the wing.

IMHO, I would drain the oil and open up the filter, Although the small oil leak would most possibly be the RMS, you may want to do a check so that a "kaaboom" does not happen due to IMS failure prior to you replacing it.

Suggestion
It's a good upgrade, you've got it, just keep the oil minimal and clean your maf every time you clean your filter.

I'd rather change and inspect fluids (oil analysis) for the short term and wait for a better reason to do the IMS.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My first Porsche was a perfect '73 914 in Adriatic blue. I owned it through High School into College and finally traded it for a much more snowboarding friendly Volvo sedan. That was 1991.
I always knew I'd have another, but it's taken 25 years to do so!
I've owned a 335Xi, C5 Corvette , S2000, Mini Cooper S and multiple Mitsubishi Eclipses.
My favorite car out of the bunch is my new (to me) 2004 C4S Cabriolet I bought a couple months ago.
60K miles, no history of IMS replacement. I've already obtained a new clutch, IMS and related parts as it has a small oil leak from either the rear crankshaft seal or IMS.
Repairs/mods so far: Ignition switch, all speakers, K&N intake, H&R Springs, Right front strut bushing, Lloyd's floormats, and a matching hardtop I found in Aspen for $200.
I'd like to add a Misha GT2M wing and perhaps a set of wheels in the future. I've found a replacement cup holder and jack locally for $75, gotta pick that up tomorrow.
I'm in the midst of tracking down a no heat issue (just posted in another thread) but other than that it runs flawlessly. I'm so excited to begin a new journey with this car. For so long I've treated cars as such a commodity I had no problem selling them after a couple years even after I'd heavily modified them.
This one feels different.
Nice car. Best of luck with it. I also had an s2000, and enjoy my '02 cab much more. One thing though, you should consider losing the K&N, all it does is add noise, addiional dirt and the possiblity of screwing up your MAF.
Thanks!! Yes it is Basalt black.
I bought the hardtop used, but it isn't Basalt black. The good thing is you can't even tell until you get really close.
I did the H&Rs as a stop gap. I'll go coilovers this Spring but I couldn't stand the 4x4 look at stock ride height!
They're still original shocks at this point and surprisingly the ride isn't bad at all.
That's an interesting and varied automotive past. I'm a fan.
The car looks beautiful, C4S cabs are relatively hard to come by. Must feel very different than your previous 911.
Very nice car, after reading many posts, I almost wish I would of got a C4S, have a C2. IMHO, I would drain the oil and open up the filter, Although the small oil leak would most possibly be the RMS, you may want to do a check so that a "kaaboom" does not happen due to IMS failure prior to you replacing it. Again, just my opinion and I am a bit paranoid.
Yeah, I've driven it approx. 500 miles in the last couple months. I do plan to drain the oil and look. I'm a bit paranoid as well. I own a Volvo shop, so I've turned wrenches for over 20 years. Paranoia comes with the occupation!
Congrats! That car is a looker - very nice. I had a Mini Cooper S as well. So much fun, but ain't exactly well made, LOL.
I'm planning to do the LN filter adapter and magnetic drain plug and filter mag, but won't be doing my IMS right away. I'd rather change and inspect fluids (oil analysis) for the short term and wait for a better reason to do the IMS.
Since you can turn a wrench, the paranoia should be mitigated. The high cost of Porsches aren't just the parts; you'll save on labor.
Great day today with the C4S.
I replaced the IMS bearing as well as a new clutch and RMS. My rear main seal was leaking like crazy.
Pretty straightforward, I purchased (or my shop did anyway) LN's Single row pro IMS retrofit kit as well as the Faultless IMS tool set. The only real challenge was figuring out what tool parts go where, etc. IMS' directions were pretty good, I also followed Bentley's Youtube video. In all, I replaced the IMS bearing as well as the clutch in about six hours.
My only moment of excitement was the removal of the original (I think) IMS bearing. It was still intact and smooth at 60,500 miles. Whew. I thought of all the repercussions as I was removing it. What if it was failing? Would I keep the car?
I also modified my mufflers Fister style:
I bought the stainless 1 1/4" tubing off of Amazon along with a 1 1/4" hole saw. I fabricated the pipes and cut the holes and took them to a local muffler shop that can weld stainless steel. It took them ten minutes and $40.
Results? It sounds so good. I'm really happy with this low cost mod. It's only loud if you put your foot into it. Perfect!
Should be in the 60's here in Denver tomorrow and I can't wait to drive it a bit more.
My new, locally acquired Misha wing is next!
Wing installed. I had a local guy paint it for $300. It looks perfect.
Fitment was a little tricky, I had to adjust the convertible top cover to clear the top of the wing as it just slightly made contact with the top of the wing. A couple washers slipped in under the cover and it raised it a few mm to clear.
All is good!
