I had the SACHS kit in my car and even though I was told it was the manufacturer of porsche clutches, when I had it replaced because of lack of grip I found the OEM kit had special stamps and markings on it and the pressure plate was generating much more force which translated into a stiffer clutch pedal...

For peace of mind and to start from a clean slate, I'm strongly considering replacing the clutch on my car now with 31K miles / '02.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

For peace of mind and to start from a clean slate, I'm strongly considering replacing the clutch on my car now with 31K miles / '02. Aside from the lack of grab power when car is first started in the morning, the clutch right now grabs fine.
I'm looking at Pelican Parts here:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...er=99611691102
Is this the complete package you guys would recommend or should I be replacing the flywheel as well since it looks like their package does not include one? I'm probably going to end up ordering from Suncoast anyways since they're cheaper than Pelican.
Anything else I should consider? What is ballpark for labor?
Got mine done at the local P dealer for about 1200. They looked at the DMF but determined it was OK with a little emmery cloth touch-up. Changed at 67,000 miles!
Have them check the RMS seal while they are in there. The seal itself is less than $100. If they do replace it make sure they use the latest seal used on the 997's (997-101-212-00).
My car had the engine replaced at 13K miles and have had no RMS now at 31K. Should I still have it checked? I know that the new engines went through a thorough makeover at the factory from what I have learnt here.
Cost is $0 to have them look at it while the clutch is out, you just want to ensure your RMS and IMS is not leaking. If so as gota911 said above have them replace it, I think the total is more like 60-70 dollars vs having it done later at 600-700. Just some cheap insurance and it would then be covered by a 2 year warranty.
Ben - I forgot about your engine replacement. You probably got the new RMS with the engine replacement. I would have them check it just because they will be there.
Benjamin,
don't buy aftermarket Sachs stuff... buy the OEM kit from Porsche... I had the SACHS kit in my car and even though I was told it was the manufacturer of porsche clutches, when I had it replaced because of lack of grip I found the OEM kit had special stamps and markings on it and the pressure plate was generating much more force which translated into a stiffer clutch pedal... bottom line is the OEM kit hooks up with more authority than the aftermarket SACHS kit that was suppose to be for my car...
suncoast porsche has them for $420 (cheaper than pelican parts) and no you don't need to replace your flywheel... that is big $$$ .. if this is the first time your doing clutch job on your car just have it resurfaced... if it needs it...
good luck.
thx pete, thx
thank u as wel gota
i'm going to bleed the clutch to start and see if that resolves things - if not, i'll order from phil at suncoast (love those guys)
Yes, I ment "clutch". However, if you have never changed the brake fluid, you might as well do so now since the clutch and brakes share the same fluid.
