Suggestion
Filling the well is much "safer" done by adjusting the ride height.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i am thinking of getting 19" BBS RS-GT for my 996 2002 C2 Cab. the rears are 11" with offset of 60
i did some math as can be seen on the attachment. the question is -- do i have extra 20mm of space without fender rubbing?
i am also planning on keeping my 18" 5-spoke OEM wheels, getting them re-finished to fix all the curb rush from previous owner and keeping them as my track/auto-x wheels (so 19" around town, 18" for driving events)
My GT3 runs 11" et63 rears and they fit fine
I guess what I really need to do is put my GT3 wheels on my CAB so everybody can see what the GT3 sizes look like on the narrow-bodied cars.
As soon as I can I'll take pics.
Remember, the tub is the same as the C4 but the suspension bits are not.
The difference is 16mm in front and 15mm rear. Easy enough to "test" that out if you have some of Porsche factory 17mm spacers. Those look HORRIBLE on the non-GT narrowbody. Nonetheless, I'll take some pics when my wife gets home. I'll swap over a front a rear and snap away.
Really? I have "near" GT3 spec offsets (within 4mm) and they look great. Fronts 19x8 et 57 with 15mm spacer so 19x8 et42 front and rear is 19x11 et 67. They dont rub outside or inside, or stick out...they look quite like the GT3 stock specs in fit. Which is the look I was going for...I'd say that the GT3 wheels will fit just fine on a C2/C4 without an issue and look great.....but you do have both so maybe I will learn something new today....
Well, my wife didn't get in till late last night....one of the drug reps took her entire practice out to dinner. **damn, I'm in the wrong line of work**
I'll get it done this evening when she arrives or tomorrow at the latest. Patience is a virtue
Dell - I can't believe that you get your wife to change your wheels for you
That's so cool!
Or is this just something that you guys do
together
...behind closed doors....nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat...know what I mean!
Yeah, we are a lot more "laid back" than those GT3 guys, and a hell of a lot more fun! I'll bet they (the GT3 guys) haven't gotten any "what in the Blue Hell" comments out of you yet!
Just kidding.......
Anyway, here's the pics. Now, after I have had a chance to think about this BEFORE the wheel swap and taking of the pics I realized that when we say something fits or doesn't fit, what we really should be clarifying is does the wheel clear the brakes and suspension bits on the inside. As for the outside, well that is just personal preference. Am I right? So, while these GT3 wheels fit "fine" on a narrow body you have to determine if you like how far OUT they go.
Here's the pics...... (first 3 are the rear and the last 3 are the front)
FYI....I took the picutres as centered as possible so that there is no angle induced push in or out.
The suspension is the RoWM030 and the car is resting on the groud (that jack is flat). The tire sizes are the stock sizes (235/295) for those wheels (8.5/11).
Dell, you really need to finish you garage floor!
May I suggest red?
Your wife's car would tone nicely, and your speed yellow would 'pop' as the designers like to say
And while I'm posting... I have to say I'm a little dissapointed
I expected to see your Missus
in action
on the floor jack!
hehehe......I know, I know, one room of the house at a time. It isn't easy when you upgrade to a house almost double in square feet! Garage is soon though. I want the floors done and a lift installed.
My wife would have helped but she's is having a spa day. WAHOOOOO, house to myself all day!!!!!
Dell...does it look like these on your GT3 or is it less "pronounced" because of the GT3 suspension? Thanks for the pix... better than just stating it like I did.
Agreed, how it fits on the outside is personal preference
Doesn't look like that at all on my GT3 but as you suspect, the suspension bits play a role. The alignment and corner balance change that as well. I'm sure with a more agressive setup (especially camber) on a C2/C4 these wheels would be sweet!
Yeah....maybe my car has a much more aggressive alignment and ride height.....I just looked at my 19x11 wheels with 295/30/19 and the sit in the wheel well by a good 10mm....
so... on my C2 cab... i am still confused if these would fit or not:
Size Selected: 19x11 Rear
Recommended Tire Size: 295/30-19
Wheel Offset: 60mm
if i compare it to an 18x10 ET 63 stock tire, it sounds like the new one would stick out additional 15mm which i think i have to spare...
Yes, they would fit in 18" for sure.....but, they would look similar to the pic of the rear I posted. However, with the same size tire on a 19" wheel you are going to fill up the arch more and you might have rubbing. Remember, you are talking about an entire inch more in diamter. You really should be running a 25 series tire in 19" to keep it close to the factory size of 25". The 19" in 25 series is roughyl 25.2" but the 30 series is 26".
i could go with 25. but i really want the wheels flush with the body and not sticking out. and it looks like from your pics they would be sticking out big time.
darn... i really want to get 19" so that when i upgrade to 997 in a couple of years, i'll just xfer the wheels.
I confused.....what exactly are you looking for? Filling the wheel well? Pushing out the the edge of the wheel well? Or both?
Filling the well is much "safer" done by adjusting the ride height.
Pushing out is done by getting a more agressive offset.
It will PROBABLY work...it depends on your alignment and ride height.....They wold work on the rear of my car, but my car is fairly low with an aggressive alignment....it'll be close.
doesn't.
do you think that could i ask you for a HUGE favor? do you think you can take a picture similar to your last one, except instead of centering the camera, align it so that front and rear wheel and the camera crate an imaginary straight line? that shot from about 6-8 feet out would perfectly tell how much the wheels are sticking out.
also... why does it look like these wheels are sticking out way less than when LVDell took pick of his 11" wheels with ET of 63? optical illusion?
awesome, thank you so much!! really looking forward to it.
btw, do you watch Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night? They had a hilarious coverage of how main stream press was covering queen visit.
yup, thank you so much. your offset is 67, right? my new BBS wheels would be 60 and from the pictures it looks like there is no 7mm to spare, you are at the max as it is.
*sob* now i dont know what to get.
Yeh, I know - Dell keeps giving me a hard time about it
I'm 7mm too far in from spec on each side, due to the std offset on the 997 wheel.
I'm thinking of bumping each side out 10mm or even 15mm - due to peer pressure!
Anyone got good recommendations for quality spacers?
Go with the OEM spacers that the wide bodies use for the sport technos. They are 17mm. That would give you the equivalent of a 10mm spacer form stock which would like BAD ***!!!!
About $250 a set and come with a set of nuts for the new bolts as well.

The other spacers pictured are the OEM 5mm ones.
ok, here we go - not super scientific, but hey, it's been a long day!
So I put a straight edge against the bead on the Toyo tire, and this intersects with the wheel arch @ top dead center, right on the inside of the arch.
Now the Toyo tire bead is quite prominent, so I measured the bead to tire shoulder distance, which is the possible area that could be in contact with the wheel arch.
This distance is between 10mm-12mm.
So I appear to have 10mm-12mm of space to the lip of the wheel arch.
You need to look inside and see if there are any clearance issues inside your arch.
I have standard suspension fitted, so I then measured the distance from the inside TDC of the wheel arch to the tire shoulder.
This appears to be 50mm-60mm
So as you have EU spec suspension, you need to factor in that you have less clearance from TDC to shoulder.
As you can see - I have zero rubbing issues with this set up.
Hope that helps!
thanks all... to be honest, my head is about to explode from all the various offset combinations and wheel sizes. i am just so afraid the wheel will stick out and make my car look like this:
Well, I'm no ex-spurt but..
If you run a 25 profile rear tire, you keep the rear wheel diameter to spec @ 25", thus reducing your risk of rubbing on the insides of the rear wheel arch.
30 profile makes the tire/wheel diameter a whole inch larger!
If your wheels have just 7mm more offset outwards than mine, it looks like you should be in-bounds, without sticking out like a *******' wagon.
Now of course you need to find a suitable 25 profile 19" tire for the rear.
I use the Toyo T1R at 315 width - cause it sticks like glue and looks 'badass' as Prof Dell would say.
So I think there's a good probability that it will all fit, look good, and give you those extra inches on the manhood that only 19" delivers (should you need it!)
Of course, I defer to others in respect to my complete lack of any tire related certifications.
Anyone?
maybe i should just get 18" and get it over with. why plan so far ahead? who knows, maybe i'll start hating porsche and everything associated with it (took me 10 year to recover after 924 ownershiop in high school)
what do people think about Volk wheels?
