Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used epoxy to glue the speednut on to the backside of the hole.
Leading evidence: 'Use epoxy' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust side fitting' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Yeah he probably used the wrong peice, because its just one of those fat ribbed plastic bolt looking things.

I installed the aerokit bumper a few months back, and it allows you to adjust the side fitting before tightening down the screw.

I am wondering, if in the bumper "hole" that this plugs into, maybe there is a fitting that goes in there, to make a smaller hole which would tighten things up?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 996 with factory aero, my bumper is the 2002+ aero II bumper.
The bumper just below the side signal, is held "in" to the car, by a grommet. Mine buldges out just a little on the passenger side and I am wondering if a peice is missing. Here is what the buldge looks like:
Now, I there just way to much "play" in that part of the bumper moving it back and forth. When I pop out the signal, you can see the grommet:
This grommet, goes down in the signal box, and intot he bumper, holding it "in". But there is too much play. This is a new bumper, new signal box, and new grommet. I looked on PET but its a bit confusing. I am wondering, if in the bumper "hole" that this plugs into, maybe there is a fitting that goes in there, to make a smaller hole which would tighten things up? Does anyone know or can check? You can pop your side light, pull out the grommet (its a speed nut) and then look into the hole of the bumper (not the signal box) that it feeds into and see if there is a fitting that goes inside the hole? anyone know?
It should be one of those clips with a screw, not a grommet. The screw that is suppose to be there is the biggest pain, as you have to get it from the wheel well, which means taking the covers off to get to it.
Whoever did it, prolly lost the piece and put that grommet in place. Check your other side and see if they did the same.

There's a pic of the bumper parts, you can see what i mean from there.
Joe,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah he probably used the wrong peice, because its just one of those fat ribbed plastic bolt looking things. The other side is done the same way. So I am going to pick up the correct parts x 2, and re-do both sides. It sucks that I have to mess with the wheel liners, I will probably just have the body shop do this for me as it seems I may have to take the wheel off to take the liner out easily. ugh.......
Signal, I have had mine off and on my car several times. I found a shortcut the last time. I used epoxy to glue the speednut on to the backside of the hole. I removed the hardware on the bottom of the bumper so I could pull it out far enough to get to the back of the hole that you have the "grommet" in. The correct bolt has a torx head and a plastic speed nut on the back. I have never had to remove the wheel liner. If I can help you further, feel free to PM me. Good luck.
As others have chimed in, the bumper should be held together on the side with a metal clip nut and a screw, not a plastic grommet. I installed the aerokit bumper a few months back, and it allows you to adjust the side fitting before tightening down the screw.
Ok, Mfletch says its a torx bolt with plastic speed nut on the back. Ucube says metal clip and screw. I ordered the parts from the PET diagram, and what came in is a metal clip, a screw and a spacer:
Attached is the pic of the PET diagram. I believe the parts are numbers 14, 15, and 16 which are:
14 900.144.101.02 tapping screw B 4,8 x 19
15 999.209.045.09 spacer
16 999.507.072.02 speed nut B 4,8
Are these the correct parts and do I show them fitting together properly?
So the clip goes around the turn signal box, and the spacer in the bumper hole, and then the screw up from the bottom of the bumper lip?
