Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'll take a whack at it, the C2/C4 uses a ZF 5HP19 tranny, the same trans that are in BMW 3 series, Audi A4's, VW 1.8T's, and others.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Considering a tip as the car will be a daily driver with some bad traffic commuting. Only looking at cars 01 and after. Were all the 996's equipped with the same tip transmission and software? Were there any uprgrades between 2001 and the final models? Do the C2, C4s and TT all have the same hardware and software?

POST 2Original post

I'll take a whack at it, the C2/C4 uses a ZF 5HP19 tranny, the same trans that are in BMW 3 series, Audi A4's, VW 1.8T's, and others. The turbo gets a different trans I believe from Getriebe or Getrag, not 100%. I believe the turbo gets 150 shifting maps, the N/A's get 5 from what I read. As far as software differences, I do not know.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pardon my ignorance, but what are "shifting maps"?

POST 4Original post

Pre-programmed shifting points for different driving styles. The more aggressive of throttle inputs and/or yaw (turning angle), the longer the tranny will hold in a particular gear and let the engine rev for "sport" (cheesy word) driving. Slow driving and commuting, the trans goes quickly to overdrive by 35MPH for fuel mileage.
