Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
I'm longtime Porsche enthusiast and I frequent other related forum websites but I find myself here as it seems to be a solid resource for water pumper information.
Right now I have a 79 SC that is modified for DE/Track events but I recently was thrown the keys to a friends modified 996 and was very pleased with the cars abilities.
I wanted to get a bit of information about the 996 models, specifically information regarding the need to know info as well as recommended modifications.
A couple of questions to start out.
As far as aftermarket exhausts are concerned, what to most find to be the most pleasing tone for the 3.4 models?
I would consider getting 996 MK2 wheels for the car if I do go ahead with it, but I was curious what was the largest size that a close to stock 3.4 could accept. Specifically width wise.
What are the general upgrades that are usually done to get decent increase in performance without tearing the motor apart and preserving longevity?
I know I have more of these, but this will do for now.

I've gotten this reply before, so I feel I must pass it on now...
Search is your friend. Undoubtedly there are answers to all your questions within the confines of Rennlist.
Hope this helps!
Fabspeed, GHL, PSE and a few others are popular. There was a thread with soundclips in it a while ago. Pleasing is subjective.
11" in the back is the largest I believe. Check RennTech.
Today the popular upgarde is the plenum. Two months ago I think it was air flow. Before that it was ECU. And I think before that exhaust. Oh wait, supercharger was in there too.
As noted, these topics are each covered by lengthy discussion - all of which a search will uncover

A couple of answers (IMHO)
"As far as aftermarket exhausts are concerned, what to most find to be the most pleasing tone for the 3.4 models?"
Porsche Sport Exhaust or the MK II Exhaust Mod

You can fit 8.5's and 11's in GT3 offsets sizes on the car (GT3 tire sizes will also fit), however the Mk II wheels are 10's. The GT3 sizes are 8.5 x 18 ET 40 and 11.0 x 18 ET 63 with 235/40 and 295/30 tires.
"What are the general upgrades that are usually done to get decent increase in performance without tearing the motor apart and preserving longevity?"
The best results on the 3.4's seem to come from intake, headers, and chip (from what I have seen).
