Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I Will tell you to check the grounds under the driver seat they are often damaged and or left off when people work under there and when you say that your alarm ecu is missing it tells me someones been there.
Leading evidence: 'Check grounds' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check grounds' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

I think you are correct time to install the computers, I did check thouse grounds and cleaned as needed it's rather nice my whole interior is out so I can see the ground points.

Suggestion
You really need to get a dme and alarm ecu into the car to test anything else.

I was hoping to crank engine using the ign switch without computers in.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have the computers out of the car dme/alarm/airbag but the dash odometer/rpm/time digital display lights stay on after I pull out the key all the idiot lights are off..I would not think that the computers would cause this, also can the car be turned over without the computers? Anyone have an idea where to start trouble shooting. I have the tech manual. As an added there is no power to the windows but if I jump power to the switches the window work. Logical guessing is allowed here.
the back lighting stays on for 10 minutes or so anyway, but if its longer then that, try un pluging the ign switch and seeing if they go out. It may need to see the alarm ecu to shut off the cluster.
can the car be turned over sure............. all you have to do is jump 12v+ to the small termianl on the starter it will crank but not fire
i dont have diagrams at the house but if you have diagrams look for where the power should come from for the windows
Thanks firehawk: Yes I did try for 10 mins and still on. Yes, I removed the ignition switch and the digital dash lights stayed on? I would have thought that the power for everything came from the ignition switch to begin with. I have voltage at the fuse for the windows will have to look at schematics. I was hoping to crank engine using the ign switch without computers in.
I am just trying to pretest before installing computers/controllers and avoiding burning them out, so knowing what should work without comps is helpful.
What works
1. lights ok
2. horn ok
3. hazard sort working of I am missing tail lights bulbs so trun signal will not blink
4. gauges registering ok
4. Power to lighter 12V
5. windsheild wipers ok
6. Climate control lights ok
7. Liscense plate light
8. Emergency idiot brake light
What does not
1. windows
2. sun roof
3. turn signals-no tail light bulbs

6. No Start/Cranking
7. Stupid, but I do not know how to open the gas door is this electric?
the alarm control is whats going to shut off your cluster, atg least thats how i remeber it, i really dont have to work on to many eraly 996s these days and things start to blur. You really need to get a dme and alarm ecu into the car to test anything else.
I Will tell you to check the grounds under the driver seat they are often damaged and or left off when people work under there and when you say that your alarm ecu is missing it tells me someones been there.
I have seen those grounds do really weird things with the windows and the top
I think you are correct time to install the computers, I did check thouse grounds and cleaned as needed it's rather nice my whole interior is out so I can see the ground points. I'll add to this tread when everything is installed.
