I imagine to feel an improved throttle response at already 3KRPM and when the ECU has finally adjusted, I may see more difference.

since the only thing that came in the box was the mufflers snd the tips, am I to assume that I will use existing mounting hardware from the OEM cans??
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I was one of the 8 who got the $700 GHL exhaust and some friends and I installed it last weekend.
I like the new sound and I feel that the system is continuously adapting to the new set-up. Initially the exhaust was pretty silent. At >4KRPM my K&N Cold Air Intake gets so loud that I didn't hear the exhaust initially. However, over time I heard the exhaust more and more and I think the sound will still change. I imagine to feel an improved throttle response at already 3KRPM and when the ECU has finally adjusted, I may see more difference. The exhaust is fine; There's no resonance / droning; I think that the car now runs even smoother at idle with a cold engine (maybe the exhaust is now louder than the engine) and when I cruise at 2.5-3.5KRPM it's only slightly louder than stock. However, when I go WOT, then the system awakes and sings up to redline with the CAI adding more music at 4KRPM. I like it a lot!
Holding one can of the old exhaust and one can of the new one at the same time, I'd say that there's a difference of 10-15lbp in weight for 1 side, so 20-30lbp for the whole system. The new cans are also smaller.
Hey, can I get your left stock tip? I don't want my GHL tips. I'm wearing mis-matched tips right now because my right(passenger side) tip doesn't fit right.
Dominick, it's a pretty straight forward install (although I was lucky that one of my friends was a mechanic and we had a professional lift).
The muffler is fixed with 4 screws to a plate and there's a double clamp that connects the muffler to the pipe that comes out of the cat. Last but not least, there's another clamp for the end tip. Don't try to take the mounting parts for the plate off. This is where we got confused in the beginning. The plate stays fixed to the muffler until it's completely off. Then you put it on the new muffler.
Sure, you can get both stock tips for free. Just PM me when and where to meet. Fitting the tips is a pain. My cheep aftermarket tips (not GHL tips) are equally made but the driver's side exhaust sticks about 1/2 inch further out (that's by design and true for the stock- and the GHL exhaust), so you can never match the look of both sides unless you have uneven tips.

. I'm never sure about HP gains with aftermarket stuff but the mufflers sound stronger!
This might be a silly question
since the only thing that came in the box was the mufflers snd the tips, am I to assume that I will use existing mounting hardware from the OEM cans??
or do i ned to buy stuff
Please realize some of the existing nuts and bolts will be difficult to remove particularly where they are repeatedly heated and cooled. Just spray them and let them sit for 10-15 minutes and then be gentle to not strip them. Other than that yes they are nice sounding, expect no additional HP.
OK
Mine are on!!!
A bit of a problem with some rust clamps but fairly strasight forward install
They sound pretty good and haven't caught any resonance as of yet. Can wait to see what they sound like as I drive her more and they start to settle in!!
Thanks for the info everyone
Great to hear that Dominick! You'll love this exhaust. We had some nice days here in Northern Virginia this week, so I drove around quite a bit with the top down and did really fall in love with the new sound. I think it changes over the first couple of days. Especially when I'm cruising around with 2.5-4.5KRPM when the CAI is not too present, the exhaust makes the car sound as it should be. I could not switch back to stock anymore. Cheers, Harold
Chris,
I am installing my TechArts exhaust on my '00 Cab this weekend and depending on the sound, if not too loud and I like it on the car then you can have my old cans for free if your Brother is willing to pay for the shipping cost. I will let you know next week with a PM.
Cheers,
Hello DJ996

Doug,
Sorry for the late reply, but I sent you a PM... I should get back to you later today regarding my TA install. If all goes well, I should be able to send you out the stock cans next week. BTW I am in Allen (TX) about 13 miles NE of Dallas Forth Worth, not too far from Houston, I guess
Thanks,
-Bao.
