Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

However, when I was looking for my non-turbo earlier this year (January-March), I ran across several 996TTs with a similar description to what you posted, and for '01 models the pricing seemed to be down in the $40k-$50k range.

but after that P-car test drive I can't stop thinking about the 996.

I've been lurking over the past 2mo's ever since I had a test drive in an 01 996 TT.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello Rennlist... I've been lurking over the past 2mo's ever since I had a test drive in an 01 996 TT.
I currently have an 01Z06 which handles/drives/accelerates superb.... but after that P-car test drive I can't stop thinking about the 996.
I'll be posting my newb questions on here.... so bear with me!
It appears prices are coming down from high 60's to low 60's in my neck of the woods (Houston). I'll probably do the deal this fall/winter.
If I get Lucky this will be what I hope to find:
White
01-03
996 TT
No Mods
<40K Miles.
<60K USD
Do you think I have a chance in heck
???
Jeff - Houston
Jeff,
Good luck on the search, when you find a potential candidate I highly recommend getting a PPI. The Pre Purchase Inspection can save you headaches if the car wasnt maintained properly.
You may also want to post on the 996 TT forum as you posted in the 996 forums. Some day if I am lucky enough I may be on that forum but for now, the 3.4L engine will do fine for me.
Good Luck and be patient
Alex is right, you should ask this on the 996TT forum. However, when I was looking for my non-turbo earlier this year (January-March), I ran across several 996TTs with a similar description to what you posted, and for '01 models the pricing seemed to be down in the $40k-$50k range. It was low enough to make me seriously question my decision to go non-turbo, but then I got the insurance quotes and the maintenance cost estimates.
If you are willing to deal with the costs of ownership, you should be able to find a great TT for under $60k, maybe even under $50k. Just be sure you go in with your eyes open to ALL the costs of ownership.
I have owned an 01, 02, 03 and currently own an 06Z06...I think you will be happy going with the 996TT...however, beware of upkeeping costs...they will be MUCH higher than your 01 Z. I went with a Techart 99C4 which was a nice compromise...
There is a '01 black/black in Houston with 50k miles for $50k, hey what is 10k miles and the wrong color when it is $10k less than you wanted to pay. Saw it last night on autotrader.
Thanks for all the replys guys.
Tip - good tip. That is an option. Since my Z-06 is Black and my Wifes C230 is black - I'll NEVER go BLACK AGAIN..... water spots, dirt, dust, heat..... now way.
I'll keep my eyes open over the next 9-12 mo's as I watch the bottom of the pricing near..... I don't think the bottom has been reached on the 996 tt..... especially with the new 08's coming. 480HP on the 997!!! WOW!....
Someone mentions MUCH HIGHER OP COSTS for the P-car Turbo vs the Z06.... Please elaborate! I got my Z06 with 23K miles and have since done the following: Tires, Battery, Windsheild (due to rock). No problems with anything in 3 yrs and 12K Miles.
Can I expect the same service from a 30-50K Miles TT 996 P-car? Or am I dilusionsal?
I don't want to buy a $60K P-car and have $24K/yr op costs if you know what I mean
I don't really care about re-sale, I just don't want more than $2-5K/yr op cost. Is this the car for me?
Thx Renn!
Interesting on the Z06. Do you track your car? Seems like the z06 would be a great track car, not so much a drive around town car... In all honestly, I have actually contemplated a zo6 for a track car.
Yetis - The 01 Z06 can be had for $23K - 28K dep on mlg. It's a real bargin for a track car. That is where it shines.
I've yet to track it. I'll prob get some track time this summer.
It's been rock-solid reliable..... with the exception of little "chevy" interior problems (seats, mirrors, pwr locks .... etc...).
I'm hoping a used 01 TT 996 will give the same service. I'd hate to drop $55K on a TT, then 6 mos later do a $20K motor or a $10K trans.
That will more than likely never ever happen. I have been reading the TT forum for over a year and never heard anyone destroy the engine or trans, just axles from drag racing.
They say maintenance is higher in a TT but to be honest everyting I replaced in my C2 was more expensive than a TT part. Look at prices for replacement parts on Pelican Parts to get an idea.
