Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I checked the car with my OBD scanner prior to CAI installation- no fault codes.
Leading evidence: 'Check car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'more me than the car' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I studied everything further, it appears that the problem was more me than the car.
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

FYI- I realize that I should have checked the forums prior to installing a K&N CAI.

Suggestion
Is it worth changing my MY2000 MAF sensor to the MY2002+ MAF sensor to avoid these problems?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Rennlist: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I've just hit a year with mine and still not a single problem.
FYI- I realize that I should have checked the forums prior to installing a K&N CAI. This message is one more CEL with the K&N CAI. I have only had 120miles with the CAI and I already have a CEL (P1123). I checked the car with my OBD scanner prior to CAI installation- no fault codes. Now after only 120 miles Guess what- P1123. Oh well- ya live, ya learn!
P.S. my car is a 99' 996 C2
Don't even bother about complaining to K&N. They are in the business to make a quick buck and do not stand behind their product.
Nurmerous Porsche owners have gotten burned on K&N products. This has been going on for years now, even before the CAI was launched (standard filter replacement).
One wonders if K&N has some stock invested in Bosh (supplier of Porsche MAFs).
P1123 is the fault code. I believe that it is actually for the oxygen sensor. I just got the OBDII scanner a few weeks ago and I am still somewhat of an idiot with it. I was looking at it again and it say that P1123 was a "pending" code, whatever that means. Maybe it just sensed the change in air intake and there actually is not a problem yet with with the MAF. When I studied everything further, it appears that the problem was more me than the car. The CEL was caused by something else that I did. It apears that P1123 was not the actual cause of the CEL.
P1123 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 1 (Cylinders 1 - 3) - Lean Threshold
This means the mixture is too rich and the DME can not compensate for it.
Could be a bad MAF - OBD II software that can read the MAF air flow will tell for sure.
Ditto here....although I did just get a CEL code P0102. so I bought a new MAF.
P0102 has something to do with a weak current in the MAF, or something to that effect, I cant recall exactly.
This intake has only been out for just over a year. This problem with 996's has been going on for years though as there are many with EVO intakes that had the same issue. These issues are very particular the the early 99'-01' 996's with the older style MAF. It is due to a combination of the narrower read range and flow path of the older style MAF in addition to it being more fragile. You need to be extremely careful removing the MAF from the stock intake tube and putting it in any other intake. You can easily damage the hot wires ot teh electronics inside by pressing against the housing. The 02'+ has a different MAF sourced from the 00' Boxster that isn't as prone to these issues.
There are many of us that aren't having an issue. I've just hit a year with mine and still not a single problem. Nor have I ever had a problem with K&N filters on any of the other cars I've owned, including: 3 Mustangs (2 5.0Ls and an SVO), a Miata, a Maxima, a G35 Coupe and my 79' 911 S/C.
